Yes, I send my friend my numbers and money to cover the wagering, and they play them for me. I've won tiny little amounts, which I've told them are theirs for performing this service for me. I don't play the Pennsylvania lottery very often, only when it gets big, which is rather ridiculous since on my fixed income I could use any amount of money.

Dear Ruthy: I live in Westchester County, NY. I haven't bought tickets in PA in nearly 2-1/2 years. You've probably noticed the Super-6 game lets you choose only ONE-THIRD of the numbers on your ticket. This game needs to be changed, or replaced with a multi-state game. The PA Cash-5 is a good game, however. NJ is a much better lotto state, not just because of Big Game , but because Pick-6 Lotto was greatly improved last year with the addition of a 3# prize, and the elimination of their 5-dig... [ More ]

Thanks, Patrick, for the advice on payments. I was wondering why people chose the lump sum route. I play in Pennsylvania, but I have a friend who plays my numbers in the big lotto for me over in New Jersey.

Ruthy, maybe I can give you some advice on which lotto game(s) to play, and if it might be worth it to drive to another state to buy tickets.

Ruthy, this is a touchy subject. Theoretically, it does, but there's the possibility of your heirs having to pay inheritance tax(es) on the entire CASH VALUE of the annuity with 10 months of the winner's passing, including installment(s) the lottery has yet to pay out. My advice: if the cash/annuity choice must be made when you play, choose CASH/LUMP SUM (like here in NY) even if you would rather get annual payments. Why? Another reason is, you still have control over your lottery winnings, and... [ More ]

Of course I'm hoping to win some day, but I have a question. Does anybody know this? If a person wins, chooses the over the years payout rather than a lump sum, and they die before the payout is completed, does the remaining payout amount go to their estate? I'd appreciate a knowledgeable reply on this point.
