Sounds like paranoia to me. In the US we have so many rich people that it doesn't make a difference anymore. If you're worried about people breaking into your home perhaps you should move somewhere else once you win. Most winners just change their phone numbers after they win and perhaps even their mailing address (if, for example, they used a PO Box address..).

I have read stories published by the Maryland Lottery in which the winner was able to keep their identity anonymous. I don't know if it's an official policy, however. I don't believe any of the other Big Game states have the ability to keep your identity private.-Todd

I understand the states need to validate their legitimacy....But..I personally would have a problem(if I would be so fortunate to win)with my safety and security....The first thing that I would do after the money is transferred to the bank or before is to hire 3 or 4 retired FBI agents to follow me around and tap my phone...Any body that mess with me concerning money issues would have to do a lot of dealing with some un-desirable characters...

Some states will allow you to stay anonymous, while others (most) require public disclosure of your name and city of residence. The reason they require disclosure is that state lotteries attempt to show the highest degree of ethics and fairness by proving that they are not fixing the lottery. People can't claim that the lottery director's uncle is winning all the money when the winner is clearly identified.-Todd
