Many annuities sold to lotteries are from PRIVATE COMPANIES which want to make money off lottery winners, without giving a damn about the lottery winner. Again, if you DO NOT take the lump sum, you have NO CONTROL over the annuity you receive.

wow if an annuity turned out to be an enron then we'd all be in trouble cause that would mean our government went bankrupt and that is quite impossible. if you were smart annuities are invested in govt securities.

Yep. I'm not a positive person. If I ever win 'the big one', I would be waiting for the other shoe to drop. Cancer would be too easy.....probably something much much worst. I'm one of those people who expects to loose in the end whenever something good happens. I can't help it. But then again, if your message is actually to THE ROCK, he expects a nice happy ending.

you get too tied up dreaming. you act like you are prepared for when the day comes when you win. well face it stop dreaming and come back to the real world. dont act like you know everything. screw shopping for an annuity. if you hit for 500M you could just set it all in a no risk fund and collect a few interest points a year and still make millions in interest a year. screw budgeting 500M, if someone can spend more than 500M in a lifetime there is something wrong with them. and CASHONLY YOU WIL... With easy access to all of your cash, you can alway take your money and run.....to another country. If, for example, you're in Mississippi, having a beer in a bar minding your own bussiness, and somehow ended up assualting(several claiming sexually) the 15 people there, you may want to send all your money someplace where they can't get it if you leave the country. Your thinking of taxes being cut for the rich may be way-way-way off. True:the tax rates for the rich are SUPPOSE to go down around 2008, but don't plan on it. The 'Projected Surplus' was a joke 2 years ago. The republics and democrats both had reasons to promote a huge surplus for political reasons. Government forcast for more then 2+ years have always been way-way-way off. If somebody wants annuity payments they still should take the LUMP SUM and _then_ shop around for the annuity (instead of wanting the annual payments first and therefore signing away the rights to their money.) BTW, I _did_ mean the WWF-the pandas will twist your arm

It's not the WWF, it's the WWE! They changed it...anyways, I feel that lump sum is the way to go. People, who have trouble with money like gamblers etc. should take annuity.

If you are required to choose when you PLAY (which will continue to be true here in New York), choose LUMP SUM / CASH VALUE, or the WWF will come and twist your arm. NEVER take the annuity. Only after you've gotten the lump sum, should you even consider BUYING an annuity (shop around.
