It didn't make any sense for a state to join only one multi states lottery game. For example, the Ohio can either have Big Game MM, or Powerball. The system is there, the only different which sever is going to accept the order. You can choose your cable/utility company, but why not the multi state lottery game? Also, who decide which multi game to join, the players or government? But who actually play the game, the players or government? The oligopoly of a particular multi states lottery games redu... [ More ]

Some times ago I predicted on this board that Ohio would not get Powerball because Indiana,Kentucky and West Virgina had Powerball and depended on Ohio for 10 to 15 percent of their sales. When Pennsylvania gets the Powerball, many Ohioans will be within one hour of a Powerball agent and hopefully when the MagaMillion jackpot is big, many of the players from those states will be coming to Ohio to play.RJOh

I've mentioned before that PA will be joining Powerball this summer. The Keystone State would do well by replacing the controversial Super-6 Lotto with Hot Lotto. Never mind that West Virginia DOES sell Hot Lotto .

That's true. It would've been good if they had Hot Lotto.. that way with the extra population Hot Lotto would grow much faster for all the other (smaller) states participating.

One downside to Ohio joining Mega Millions instead of MUSL/Powerball is that it would not be eligible to sell MUSL's other offerings, such as Hot Lotto. If Ohio had decided to sell Powerball, it would then make sense to replace Ohio Lotto with Hot Lotto .

I agree. I mean, right now as hopeful winners we all say I'm getting cheated out of my extra 3% or whatever.. but once you win I'm sure you'll feel differently.Though CASHOnly does have a good point as well. Though Ohio Lotto isn't responsible for the pooled Jackpot, Big Game Mega Millions is. Same goes for PowerBall.. the individual states are only responsible for all other cash prizes except the pooled jackpot. MUSL is responsible for that.. so I'm not sure how that'll affect the nonsense Oh... [ More ]

Now that Ohio sells a multi-state game, there's no need to keep Ohio Lotto as is. Take one ball out of the number field (48 instead of 49), eliminate the bonus ball (draw six numbers only), pay $3 for matching three numbers, make 4-of-6 and 5-of-6 numbers parimutuel (maybe averaging the same amounts as now), and, making the jackpot start at $1 million lump sum (to eliminate the low cash value of the annuity since there would be no more annuities.) Those wanting the biggest jackpots would still p... [ More ]

People in Ohio know math too, but all that math doesn't mean anything unless you win, and if you are lucky enough to win, you don't care about the math. I've never hear a jackpot winner say he got cheated, and if he did, I don't think any of the losers would care.RJOh

The $13.3 million cash value in Mega Millions is over 53% of the annuity option. However, the Ohio Lotto cash value is ONLY 44% of the annuity. The extra four payments (30 total) in the Ohio Lotto annuity do not fully account for the 9-percentage-point difference in the percentage of the cash options vs the respective annuities. This proves that the Ohio Lottery continues to cheat lump-sum winners in Ohio Lotto of the FULL cash value. Something to think about now that Mega Millions is played in
