The initial jackpots for MM and PB start at $10 million to give people an incentive to play. Jackpots then increase by $2 million per rollover until sales catch up to the guaranteed jackpots. THEN the pots increase according to expected sales. Summer is a slow time for lottery play; the week of July 4th has to be one of the five slowest lottery sales weeks of the year (or close to it).

And they seem to have had a big increase in winners too. I know:they just haven't realized it yet. Accounting errors. They must be having them same people at MegaMillions doing their jackpot/ticket sales forcast. I'm sure it's not greed! OK, I'll throw them a bone: It's a holiday week and they are afraid ticket sales may go down. Kind of weak. But then again, one little terrorist related story on this 4th of July week will keep everyone glued to their televisions. Well, hopefully Powerball will... [ More ]

Until last month, a lot of Ohioian were going to Indiana,Kentucky and West Virgina to play the Powerball, but with MegaMillion available with a bigger jackpot, those sales are staying in Ohio. Ohio's gains are a lost to nearby Powerball states. Besides, there is a limit on the amount of money people are going to spend on lottery tickets.RJOh

Woah, what the heck is going on here? I realize that last night's jackpot ($14 Million/$7.9 Mil Cash) was not that large, but with PA having joined I expected the next jackpot to increase more than $2 Million!!?? Super 6 still increases by $1 Million every time it isn't hit. You mean to tell me that in 22 states and DC, there weren't enough people to play to boost Powerball more than $2 Million?Seems strange to me. When Mega Millions started in NY and OH strong sales increased the pot by $2 Mill... [ More ]
