I don't see a reason to change my PowerPlay strategy when the new format comes. The Power Surge bonus will be divided EQUALLY between all 5/5 matches when it happens. The Power Surge will be INDEPENDANT of PowerPlay. Incidentally, the minimum 2x on the PowerPlay wheel appears to explain why the lower-tier prizes will remain as is.

I agree with you under the current format. But I think once PB changes the multiplier to always being between 2-5 it will make sense to add the Power Play no matter what the jackpot is. Because you could win more money that you could use to buy more tickets if the jackpot rolls over. I'd much rather spend $2 to win $35 and roll that over to the next drawing than spend $2 on seperate tickets to win $7.

That's OK that the lower tier prizes aren't changing. Because they are getting rid of the 1's on the Power Play wheel and adding more 5's. Power Play definitely becomes a must play feature (in my opinion). Also the bonus prize (Power Surge?) sounds VERY promissing. With higher odds of winning, it's very conceivable that Powerball may reach the limits where Power Surge will be activated. That money will then be split among all 2nd prize winners. I was able to find a press release of the Powerball changes coming next month. I noticed that it looks like the eight non-jackpot levels will be the SAME as now ($100,000/$5000/$100/$100/$7/$7/$4/$3).
