To Harry Covenant, I'm not from your area but if the store operators there are like they are here, it would be supprising to me that the poor computer could add let alone randomize and send the right information via ether and not have a hiccup or two getting there. I have observed how the key puncher cleans these poor, uneducated terminals and I must say in all honesty that a seven year old can do better without instructions. High math or not a machine is only as good as it is cared for. From... [ More ]

I'm sure it's an attempt to make sure that more than just the time is used. If they just used the time as the seed number, then patterns could easily come about - people who got their numbers at the same time every day would start to see trends in their selections.I wrote all the detail because I'm sure there's some other people who aren't aware how computers and random numbers work.

I know that part Todd, it's the previous terminal activity that I was wondering about. Does that mean, as others have implied, that the terminal balances out the numbers generated

Quote: Originally posted by Thomas Covenant on December 19, 2002 ...Each time it is seeded with several randomizer keys based on time and previous terminal activity...This is actually a pretty technical subject. Basically speaking, in the world of computers, there is no way possible to create a truly random number. Computers are built to be precise machines, and randomness is the exact opposite. So in order to generate a random number, the computer is programmed to start with a particular num... [ More ]

Your question about previous terminal acticity on quick picks reminds me of lottery articles I have read in the old New York lottery news. What the columnist had to say about qick picks was their experience when they had purchased them. What they had to comment on was that If you went into a store and purchased lottery plays that they had chosen say ten. Then when they got a few qick picks directly after purchasing their chosen numbers their quick picks may appear to resemble their previous purc... [ More ]

This is from the minnesota state lottery website.Q: How are quick-pick tickets generated for games like Powerball? Is it in the local store terminal or a host computer? How many host computers are there?A: The quick-pick algorithm resides in the store's terminal. Each time it is seeded with several randomizer keys based on time and previous terminal activity. What exactly is previous terminal activity
