Gary, I bet you're closer to RI. Their secondary game is a pick-5. Hot Lotto would be a good fit there, but I suppose RI wasn't interested in it.

CASH: You told me about it. But CT NH are too far for me to travel to pick up those tickets. If I am there, I will certainly consider.

Gary: I presume you live in Mass. Did I tell you yet about Hot Lotto in NH and/or CT Classic Lotto ? Both have better jackpot odds than the 6/49, and, of course, each has a cash option.

CASH:I agree. May be I will throw in a note to our Treasurer if anyone cares to listen. I would definitely be interested in it if they make CASH option available.

Gary: Think about it. Expanding the 6/49 to all of New England would produce MORE jackpot winners. Also, the SW corner of New England is near NYC. Furthermore, offering a CASH OPTION would encourage more people to play. The amount of the annuity would still be advertised, but the PR campaign would say that a cash option WOULD be available.

I agree with you CASH. But the problem with 6/49 is there are so many few winners in a year. In a year only 2 to 3 jackpots are won. The sales are low for MASS 6/42 and 6/49. If they give CASH OPTION, the jackpot size will be much less huritng the sales pitch more. I usually don't play either of them for ANNUITY reasons.

Many of you know that Massachusetts (in addition to MM) offers two in-state jackpot games, 6/42 and 6/49, both of which happen to be ANNUITY-ONLY. In the last couple of years, there has been a trend towards replacing single-state jackpot games with second-tier multi-state games ( Lotto South , Hot Lotto .) Other single-state games are hurting (eg Michigan Millions is being replaced next month.) Maybe the MASS 6/49 should be expanded to all six New England states (perhaps Tri-State Megabuck... [ More ]
