LOL ;-) Sorry about that Jazzy. Sometimes it is hard to tell on messageboards whether what one is saying is an attack or only a joke and just trying to mess around. The reason for this is because I can't see your facial expression, tone of voice, and mannerism while you were telling me this. I'm sure if you were to tell me this face to face I would have known you were only messing around. But sometimes its tough to tell on messageboards. Again, I would like to say sorry man.Take care,David... [ More ]

Jazzy,There are plenty of other boring conversations on this board too. It is a freakin lottery board for crying out loud. LOL ;-) Can I not dream? LOL Can I not ask these questions I have always thought about. That is why I came here and not to a sports board. I am always hearing people talking about investing in this and that. But have never heard anyone here mention CDs. That got me curious so I was just asking the opinion of Andy. My question does not only apply if one wins the lottery. It c... [ More ]

You 'guys', all, must be, for the most part, already some-what wealthy. How else, could you be able to engage in such a 'boring' conversation, for so long, and 'repeately'. You sound like a 'bunch' of 'brokers', at 'happy-hour'.Too each, his own. That's what makes this country, and this, 'board', in perticular, so special.

David: Getting advice from Andy is fine. As long as you take the LUMP SUM. (PS-I've bought CDs. Even if lotteries paid winners through CDs instead of annuities, I'd still choose lump sum.

That would be a definite Thomas. I just wanted to know the opinion of Andy. Just as if I would ask the same question to a friend, family member, or someone I met on the Bus. But you can definitely be sure that I will certainly get professional advise if I ever were to be so lucky.

Even though you didn't ask me the question, I'll answer it. If you win don't get advice off of a lottery board. Hire a tax attorney, a certified financial planner, and a tax accountant.

Hi Andy, ;-)Yup, that is what I am asking. I just turned 23. I am a college student. My long term goal for the money is definitely not to blow it all. But to make it grow. Use the principal I won in the lotto (that is after I use it on the many things I need to use it first as I already mentioned above) to make even more cash. I would want to keep the principal untouched and just use the money I make off the interest. That is why Bank CDs are so appealing to me. They pay you interest for the mo... [ More ]

David1,I'm not clear what you're asking. Are you asking why one would purchase an annuity rather than investing it in a tax free bond or a CD? I need to know your long term goals. How old are you? What interest are you getting on the CDs, etc. before I can choose one or the other.I'm in favor of taking the annuity option from the beginning. If the pot is over $100M, that's a whole lot even for one single year.

Hey Andy, ;-)To start so you know where I am coming from I would select the CashOption if I were ever to win. Yes, I know I never will but it at least does give me the chance to dream. ;-)First, there is no way I can accept annuity because my mom is really in dept and I will need large sums of money to get her out. Then I may want to buy myself some new cars and even a new home. I would also buy my mom some new vehicles. I do not think I will need to buy her a new house because she already live... [ More ]
