Well said, Megamillion. Todd, I hadn't read the first page of this disscusion, and agree with you, it's, stupid decesions, by, judges. Combined, with the way, 'fundamentalist', tend to 'gardner', God, all too themselves. The 'Spirit', GOD, if you beleive in it, is, all-inclusive. And speaks too, a higher, all-incompensing, 'state'.

The person who originally wrote the pledge was a minister who wanted to keep Church and State seperate, which is why he left out any religious references. In a world in which almost every conflict going on at this time is over religious differences I often wonder why we have to keep trying inject religion into non religious areas. Return the pledge to it's origional form and leave it alone.

If you will notice Todd, the petition in the first post is titled A Petition Supporting a Constitutional Amendment . A constitutional amendment would not be necessary if the pledge was constitutional. The phase Under God does refer to the christian god. The push to have it put in the pledge was started in 1951 by the Knights of Columbus. The Establishment Clause was intended to prohibit the federal government from declaring and financially supporting a national religion. Aren't we going down a Slippery Slope here?
