I know about all that stuff concerning Lump Sum and Annuity legalities but it still doesn't change anything for me,taking an Annuity would be my best choice for my particular situation.But like you said, either way you take the money it's still more than what you had before.

I believe taking an Annuity is just as good as taking a Lump Sum because in the case of sudden death you don't take your money with you either way.If you took a Lump Sum the money stays while your gone same for Annuity so there's really no difference you can still realise your success or dream as long as you have the money to do so even if it's for a short period of time.

Hey VisionDude, I understand where your coming from but I disagree because you can have Legal documents drawn up that state where you want your annual payments too go in case of sudden death.In my case I would start with my sister who's younger then my wife if I'm married at the time and finally my son who would recieve payments at age 21.And as for your friend that was very unfortunate but believe it or not it is possible too know when your going to kick the bucket I studied certain things per... Lottowiz:Nobody should complain about being forced to receive a lump sum since you can always use a significant percentage of the cash to purchase an annuity, or invest however you want.The problem is when the prize is paid over X years, with NO cash option.

Well that wasn't very fair you should be allowed too make a choice.I would be very TICKED OFF if I was forced too take a LUMP SUM .And as for whether you'll live long enough too recieve annual payments I believe that if your pushing 50 you should probably take a Lump Sum but if your 40 and under it's okay too takean Annuity .I'm under 40 so it's ANNUITY for me.

AnnuityIsWeakestLink:If she dies, what about the possible ESTATE TAXES her heirs would have to pay on ALL FUTURE PAYMENTS within 10 months of her death?You don't know what the income/estate tax laws will be during the next 20 or more years.

What's your point? So, it'll go to her husband or her children. Say you win the lumpsum today and die tomorrow, ... what's the difference? Someone in her family will be getting the money either way.
