in light of the original question... the odds would be 1/500 for the number to be drawn in that day... but it would still be 1/1000 for a player to match the winning number in either drawing. If you played 911 in the AM drawing you would have a 1/1000 chance of winning. If you played 911 in the PM drawing, your odds would be 1/1000 of winning in that drawing. The only way you would better your personal odds of winning would be to play another number in each drawing.

If you do not want to go back to the original question, I will do it for you! On 11 sept in New York the pick 3 was 911. What is the probability that the pick 3 matched the date? Where in that question is anywthing written about how much money it costs to play it?The chances for that day are 1/500. Whatever amount you want to pay to hit the number has nothing to do with it.

You don't get a free ride in the PM drawing just for having an AM ticket. If you play either the AM or PM, it's 1/1000... if you play the same number for both, THEN you could consider it 1/500, but it cost you twice as much to play.

I saw this question apparently pretty late. But Cash Only's first answer is correct. If there are two draws per day the theoretical chances are1/500 that at least once the number will be drawn:1/1000 + 1/1000 = 2/1000 = 1/500 and not 2/2000, Todd.Example: 1/4 + 1/4 = 2/4 and not 2/8.Or 1 Quarter plus 1 Quarter is 2 Quarters and not 1 Quarter. With that kind of calculation you would lose a lot of money. Now the chances that is happens twice that day would be1/1000 x 1/1000 = 1/1 000000. Now that wou... [ More ]

Well Tom, The odds say 1000 to 1 and it is just a coincidence that happened.... I was in shock when I watched the drawing that night and also pissed me off cause soooo many people had it. The number was sold out of course its amazing how a tragedy can stimulate that many people to play a number like 911, personally here in NY that number should be retired for that day of sorrow! JMHO!Mink404Ski
