Given that Mega Millions is now $175 million, why would a cashier in Georgia or Michigan ask someone if they want to spend LESS THAN a dollar on a lottery ticket

RJ:I did not start this thread; it does belong in another forum.Something is VERY wrong if a lottery game has only six winners STATEWIDE regardless of prize category, with two of them receiving $75 each.

RJ:When the Michigan game started, at least one ticket won over $10,000. These days it's rare for a ticket to rake in $500.

smd:Did you see that the UK wants to sell 1p tickets (1.60c-1.65c)? But they supposedly would have TENS of THOUSANDS of winners each night.My 3/99, of course, would allow MANY MORE winners, with multiple bets on one ticket possible, and multi-draw capabilities (the latter on 50c bets).

RJ:I suppose a store employee is obligated to sell a Change Play ticket if the customer wants one. I don't think many businesses with lottery make more from selling tickets than of any other product, although they probably rely less on tobacco sales now.

RJ:The 5% or 6% or whatever commission (6% in NY) Michigan retailers get is PER DOLLAR, so, a store would most likely make 1.25c-1.5c on a 25c Michigan Change Play ticket.The breakage (a term used in horse racing, etc for rounding down winning bets) in Change Play is high, since apparently all payoffs are 100x, 200x, 300x etc the wager ($75.00/25c=300.

How can any prize money be generated with a 25 ticket if the state takes half the money and the store gets a nickle for processing the ticket? You might as well ask the state to take your loose change because you aren't willing to wait till you have a dollar worth for a regular lottery ticket.RJOh

haha....how funny a $.25 pay only paid out $75. what a game hey....when it came out they were calling for thousands of dollar prizes....that game won't be here long trust me.Brad
