Massachusetts is apparently getting reading to spend $5 million on advertising Megabucks and Mass Millions without making any changes in the games themselves. Very disappointing, since there are several things they could do to make the games more appealing, starting with a lump sum jackpot and substantially larger lower prizes. TG:My guess is that the INSURANCE COMPANIES (or whatever sell annuities to the Mass. Lottery) want to keep making money off of players' winnings. If the 6/42, 6/49, and scratch game winners were allowed to choose lump sum, the vast majority would, and the annuity sellers would have fewer chances to make money.As to why Mass. winners of Mega Millions ARE allowed to choose cash, it has to be the fact that Mega Millions is a multi-state game.

I'm from Mass and would like a cash option on these games, though I am not sure I'd take it (See Hitting the Jackpot of Questions Washington Post article). The new treasurer, Tim Cahill, is a big disappointment on doing anything to kick some life into these 2 sluggish games.
