I am not sure how loops work in you programming language, or if excel has loops? Maybe you would have to import the file. In pseudo Java it would look like this.for(int i = 1; i <= 49; i++)   slot1 = i;    for(int j = i +1; j <= 49; j++)        slot2 =j;        for(int k = j + 1; k <= 49; k++)            slot3 = k;            System.out.println(slot1 +     slot2 +     slot3

In GWBasic, eliminating N4,N5 and N6 and other small changes will print out all the combinations of threes for a 649 game. I was thinking that the same thing was true in Excel. I might have been wrong. I don't recall the post that had the Excel formular, but it's back a while.10 HN=49:REM HN=size of number file20 FOR N1=1 TO HN-530 FOR N2=N1+1 TO... [ More ]

SHTh,There are 18424 possible combinations of threes in a 49 number field. If you have the formular for coming up with the 13983816 combinations of sixes then modiy it for three. To find the frequency of match 3's, you can use an odds calculation which will be pretty close to the real answer you get by checking each file record with the total file. I don't use excel and don't have a copy of it, but I have a routine(program) that I wrote in GWBasic that works for me. Out of 1631 draws that I had in my file at the time, there was one match 3 combo matching in 8 of the 1631 draws. There were three match 4 combo's in the 1631 draws. Not very meaningful data in my opinion.I am not sure if this is the same problem you are undertaking? I am not sure what can be accomplished in Excel, as I don't know much about it.
