ANONYMOUS WINNERSI was wondering about the option of remaining anonymous after a win. Is this right part of the individual state's game laws or is it part of a state's right to privacy law? Which state would have jurisdiction- the state of my domicile or the state from which I bought the ticket? Do you know which states allow you to remain anonymous? Lottery's Frequently Asked Questions Do I Have to Release My Name to the Public? Answer: In 1988, the Michigan Legislature enacted Public Act 243 which gives winners of prizes greater than $10,000 the right to remain anonymous. However, Mega Millions winners are exempt from this act. The names and cities of residence for all Michigan Lottery Mega Millions winners (including the jackpot) are considered public record

When you cash any ticket over a certain amount, you have the right to ask that your name not be used. They can print demographical information such as city and state, etc but not anything that would readily identify you personally as the winner. If the winner did not sign a release form, they can't publish their information.

Yes, I do see now the article on the Kentucky Lottery's Website.But you call that anonymous. It tells where she lives.....where she works....and all that stuff. They told us everything except for her name.Brad

How do you know that it is claimed anonymous? I cant find that anywhere. If you go to the powerball site, it still says that the prize is still unclaimed. whats up with that?Brad

She said that she plans to keep working, but unless you form a trust, the winner's name and hometown should be public information.

I have no idea what the exception is based upon. I think it's a bad idea to make exceptions. If you allow one person to remain anonymous, everyone should be allowed.

But I thought that the winners' names were public information. If the states are willing to make exceptions, then what would the circumstances be? She said that she wanted to keep working, so maybe that's why the lottery made an exception.

Some states do allow the winner to remain anonymous. Another one that has done it in the past is Maryland.

The woman who won the $13.5 million powerball jackpot in Kentucky two weeks ago wishes to remain anonymous. I thought Delaware was the only state in which someone could remain anonymous without forming a trust, but apparantly, some states will make exceptions.
