I think the jackpot amount has to do with how many players are buying non winning tickets how the winnings are paid to lower tier winners..... which determines the rollover amount, and add to it the new ticket sales. All that determines the jackpot growth. The odds of the game can give you a guestimate on how frequently somebody should be winning, but that doesn't mean it'll happen. ;)e.g.: the smaller state of Rhode Island could have *lotto fever* and buy $5 million worth of tickets, while th... [ More ]

why do people complain so much about the jackpots....maybe we should just get it over with and have a 9/99 game with a 1/99 megaball and play for a billion dollar jackpot....its amazing what people complain about these days

Twisted,I don't have a lot statistics, that was just an easy one to check. In theory if half of the possible combinations are covered than there is a 50/50 chance the jackpot will be won. I can't explain it, maybe the MegaMillions players just play smarter. I know I win more when I play PowerBall, but I has to go to Indiana to get tickets so I spend more because I don't go often, and the more I spend the less likely I will pick all losing combinations because there is a limit to the amount lo... [ More ]

RJOh you are right. But from all those 14 time when the white balls have been below 32, most of the time, someone has won. Do you have any statistics for all the drawings when the white balls have been very close to each other or chronological?According to theory , mega millions should have pot sizes way above powerball, but as we know, it doesnt. So there is certainly something different. Unless everyone playing mega million is the luckiest SOB alive, theoretically mega millions should ha... [ More ]

Twisted,The odds of winning the jackpot of 5/52 + 1/52 lottery is 1:135,145,920The odds of winning the jackpot of 5/31 + 1/31 lottery is 1:5,267,241If you believed what you are saying you would be playing all low numbers below 32 and improving your odds of winning the jackpot by over 2500%. So far of the 161 drawings only 14 times have all 5 white balls been below 32, and only 9 times have all white balls and the bonus ball been below 32. Good luck to you.RJOh

If any change needs to be made to megamillions, it probably needs to be with the drawing machine. Seems to me that the drawing machine is not consistent and picks #'s which are very close to each other or all below 32. I think they should change the drawing machine.

dvdiva,Any changes will probably make the game even harder to win, so the jackpot will grow higher. PowerBall seems to be doing fine and it has better odds. I hope they don't change it.RJOh
