explorer.exe is your desktp (technically, the shell). This is started before it even reads the other start list... without it you would not have your icons or taskbar. you don't need to add it because it is already running.ppwebcap is used by PaperPort (ScanSoft Technologies)bmupdate is used by a Visioneer One Touch scannertask monitor (taskmon) is used by the operating system, ok to let it there.PC Health is used by PC PowerScan. Thanks Bryan, wonder why explorer isn't listed. could this cause a problem and should it be added? If yes how? Also what are things like pp webcap,bm update,task monitor,pc health,mm tray.

O.k. retxx... click the start button, then click RUN and typemsconfigWhen the box pops up, go to the tab on the far right, this is a list of all programs scheduled to start when windows starts... each has a checkbox by it... uncheck a box to disable the program from starting up with windows.Also START|PROGRAMS|START UP contains programs that also auto-start, just right click and delete them from START UP, this will still leave the program intact, just skips the auto start

how can I find a list of what programs are running as I turn my P C on and then what to click on to stop any unneccary ones from running which I am sure slows down my P C. Thanks for any help.
