I live in South Carolina, but work in North Carolina. My withholding goes to North Carolina. When I file my South Carolina state taxes, I receive a credit for the amount of taxes I paid to North Carolina. In other words, I never pay more than one state tax. And the tax I pay is at South Carolina tax rates. (North Carolina taxes are higher). If you win the lottery, it would work the same way. Income is Income.

Ok, I live in Ohio and run to Indiana to buy lottery tickets. My question is, so, by miracle, I win the powerball and my ticket is from Indiana, do I have to pay Indiana state taxes or Ohio state taxes? From what I know, the state that sells the ticket withholds a certain percentage. Can someone explain this. Thanks.
