cool, nice solutin to the problem also!I was initially thinking that a logic test would be needed to prequalify the targeted rows ,but that does indeed work using the 2 conditional dormatting tests...Quick question... how do you handle the situation where the 2nd and 3rd columns are the matching ones

Hypersoniq,I used Conditional formating to use the background color.I have 2 conditions. Equal to 1st condition compares the 3rd digit or column2nd condition compares the 2nd digitIf any conditions match it formats the background to a selected color.Thank you,wsls

basically it will need to be a loop, set from row 1 to the last row... I'm working on an automated way to auto-detect the last valid row...the loop will first compare A1 to B1, if true then it will set the property of cell color to blue, if false it will go to the next if... does A1=C1? then to the last... does B1=C1?...if all are false it will not do anything but move to the next row... if true it will color the background cells blue... It will most likely color all cells blue for a triple...I... [ More ]

Conditional formatting was my first thought, but that would get overly complex and messy... I thing a vba macro would be best... I'll try and gather some more info and test it out on my PA numbers...

I need help with excel.I have a list of pick 3 numbers.Each position is in separate cells (A1, B1, C1)Since my list is so large I would like to use 1 color (Blue) to signifya double hit for that draw whether it is front, back or side pair.For example:If the number is 2 2 4, I would like to enter the 3 digit number and have Excel automaticallycolor the double numbers cells only.
