It might be a Mexican who won. I recall reading a story on the TexasLotto website a few days before the lotto actually hit about a Mexican man who bought more than two thousand dollars in lottery tickets. Who knows....this may very well be the man who dventually hit the jackpot. Two thousand dollars in lotto tickets?? Whew...that is a lot of dough....he must have gathered the money from other family and friends and just took a leap of faith....

Still no iinformation on the El Paso winner. I have been watching the TLC site closely, but there has been no announcement so far. It is possible the person who won it doesn't know and may never know. He or she may also be consulting with a lawyer. I still think a Mexican national or illegal alien bought the ticket. The border is about as solid as a wire mesh fence down there. If a winner isn't announced, does the state roll the winnings into another drawing or pocket the money? I don't tru... [ More ]

The ticket was purchased in El Paso TX, which is right on the Texas / Mexico border. If the ticket was purchased by a Mexican citizen, that does not mean that he/she is an illegal alien. There are many Mexican citizens in the US legally. And as for taxes, Texas does not have a state income tax, so any taxes taken will be Federal income taxes. Currently the lottery will withhold 25% for fed income taxes. And I believe that citizens of other countries are subject to a higher rate of withholding.

dphillipsMost countries have Business Immigration. So if you are of good character and have enough money and you are prepared to transfer the required amount to your destination country then you can pretty well go anywhere.I am sure if he/she is illegally in the country a good lawyer would extend credit and give the appropriate advice to make sure he/she is paid and the person/Lotto Winner could then dventually reside in the country of their choice.Colin

texas will be able to take out taxes regardless of where the winner is from. the money was earned (won) in the state of texas, and so that's where the taxes on the winnings will go. the winner (if from another country) may also have to pay taxes on it in their country as well, but wasn't the ticket bought far from the border

Orangeman gets the credit for answering the topic: WILL THE TX LOTTERY WINNER COME FORTH, and I am just adding my 'two-cents' to his answer, illegal alien or US citizen. Quite frankly, I had not thought about the winner's legal or illegal status! I just assumed the person was a US citizen, purchasing a ticket. If the person is an illegal alien and he or she has a validated ticket, I do not think the state/government can take his or her money. However, with that kind of money, the person can b... [ More ]
