That's why education is such a great use of the money - because the regular budget delivers all the basic services, plus the lottery revenue provides EXTRA THINGS that are not in the regular budget. The track record of state lottery organizations has been miserable. Why take this greed and corruption to a higher level? The state lottery organizations start out with good intentions and slowly but surely run the whole thing into the ground seeking higher profits. Here in Texas the TLC was supposed to spend the proceeds on education, but it goes into the general fund. They claim the procee... [ More ]

we don't need a national lottery. that would eliminate the fun of seeing people cross state lines to piss away hundreds, maybe even thousands of dollars at a microscopic chance of early retirement.

I like Mega Millions and Powerball as the US national lotteries . I think it would be terrible to have one lottery covering every state, because either the odds would be too long, or the jackpots would never get very big.Teaparty, please don't post that response about the Mass Lottery every time a thread like this comes around, because I'm not in business to provide free advertising for the Massachusetts Lottery.

What they need is a lottery that spreads the top prize to many different winners if the prize gets extremely large. Say if a Mega Millions pot reaches $ 50 million or more, have a special drawing where the five-ball winners split the jackpot.

The UK National Lottery has raised 16 Billion pounds for 'Good Causes' (see link below). The US could raise billions of dollars to fund public health. Yes, most states have lotteries, but competition is good and some people may play both.http://www.national-lottery.co.uk/player/p/goodcauses/fundraising.jsp
