Some great information here...it just reaffirms my desire to see that we keep the numbered balls and the mechanical draw machines instead of rng computerized draws. Rotating machines and ball sets just makes me more confident that the lottery is being run right and doing it's best to produce random and fair draws. I know I haven't benefitted from it. But it does confirm my first suspicions that there were several machines being used and that they were being rotated. I didn't know about the ball sets being rotated as well.I look at it like this: If people are being successful utilizing just one fifth of the total amount of the draws, then more information on how the machines randomly pull up the numbers can't hurt and should make for more successes. Biglooser how do you know that the pre draws are taped. I thought that when we see the live drawings that this is the drawing that is taking place in real time called live feed. And it's the one that's being watched by the general public and recorded by the lottery independent auditors and independent witness. Also one of the assistant director is involved in the process. It really doesn't matter how the terminals come up with their numbers as long the players have the option of coming up with their own numbers and making out a card. I prefer to pick my numbers randomly myself, that way I can make sure there aren't any duplicates. It makes no sense to complain about the numbers the terminals give you if you can pick your own.RJOh

I read this on an official lottery site some time ago. (Of course I can't find it now). The RNG in the terminal is seeded with the time, date, and previous terminal activity. It's not some big conspiracy, it is freely admitted and known.

In PowerBall there are 2,869,685 possible combinations of fives. There is a 1:2.5 chance(odds)of any number from one combination appearing in another combination because there are 1,157,381 other combinations that contain one or more of the numbers from that combination. Maybe it's just randomliciousness. You know, sometimes a certain number will show up often, sometimes not at all...that's the essence of random! So if you pick five numbers, 02-17-28-29-51 on a playslip, and also QPs, it's possible that some of those same numbers will show up. It's more likely that none of those numbers will show up on the next QP play. I don't believe that the lotteries' RNGs are influenced by what's on your playslip, not one bit.

Plus what benefit would rigging have? They have no way to connect a sold number with a person. Generally you rig it for some goal. What's the goal? The lotteries have specific rules on how much is paid out in prizes, how much is paid out for state project funding, lottery overhead, etc. I'm not sure of this but I'd also imagine there are rules prohibiting lottery officials from buying tickets. I never understood anyone saying it's fixed. State lotteries make more money now with video poker and other revenue streams than with tradtional lotteries. Megamillions and Powerball sales are relatively flat and unless the pot hits at least 100 million sales are low. If they rigged the games it just wouldn't make sense that they would rig it to have small jackpots and yet that's whats been happening for a while now. Actually when you add up all the combinations that would contain 1-6 of those numbers, the total is 7,887,362. In the Ohio 649 Lottery 441 drawings, 1-3 of the numbers 1-2-3-4-5-6 were in 246 of the drawings which is better than 50% of the time which would be the same with any QP's that anyone bought.RJOh

Exactly what is that supposed to prove Big? The chances of either of those combinations coming up in a random draw are extremely slim. Sure by statistics it's just as likely as any other draw but if you look at the entire history of the lottery, any lottery, you would find only a tiny, tiny handful of draws that were in an exact numeric order like 1 2 3 4 5 6.

Take care when using the pre-draw and post-draw data, the data for 08/18/04 doesn't agree with the winning drawings data. One sheet shows 35 40 42 33 31 +40 as the winning drawing and the other show 02 14 27 31 36 +09 as the winning drawings. I think 08/18/04 was confused with 08/21/04. There may be more errors on that sheet, you will have to check the two lists with each other to find them.RJOh

I must have glazed over the part where they offer the results of the test draws. My thinking was that if they do all these test draws then any system you come up with couldn't possibly predict any current streaks because you are only seeing 1/5th of the results.
