Vista-to-XP ratio getting much better
Webmasters can be obsessive about Web browser statistics, such as what browser people are using, what version number, etc.
Another statistic that can be an important tell is what operating system people are using, because it telegraphs a lot of information about your visitors' computers and capabilities.
For example, someone using Windows 98 is going to have an old, very underpowered PC, whereas someone using Windows Vista will tend to have a more modern,...

IE8 beta probably released too early
I installed and tried out the new IE8 beta, which was released to developers today. IMHO, it was pushed out the door too quickly even for a beta.
I would call it more of an alpha . Case in point: Microsoft's own site crashed the browser.
Normally I'll leave a beta browser on my computer for at least a couple/few days to give it a fair shake, but IE8 was so unusable that I had to uninstall it within an hour. Yup, that bad.
I am very excite...

The bulbs, or the anteeena
I used to be middling friends with a guy who was a bit on the slow side.... IQ probably in the high 80s, which could probably pass itself off as average now, but in those days it was considered slow. Tony (I always called him Tony because that was his name) was an amiable sort of man and there was nothing he wouldn't do to try to help anyone who needed it.
But Tony, because he didn't understand a lot of things, had a lot of respect for anyone who did. He respecte...

V-trac
I am not trying to make anyone mad on this system. I want to say I enjoy this web-site for my collection of numbers. I really don't understand the V-trac but it is bad. I compared some numbers today being that it is the end of the month (quota has been met),and certain numbers will not return. For example, 026 this number came frequently this year, and it will not return until another month. Looking at Ga history of how the numbers come out, they have...

A short trip in the way-back machine
I mentioned documents proven forged in Rather-gate in TigerAngel's blog entry here.

Supporting Google Chrome with Browserhawk
Lottery Post uses Browserhawk (from Cyscape) to detect browser capabilities, so if a user's web browser does not meet the minimum standards required by the site, they can be shown a detailed message page, with a description of exactly what is under-functional.
When the new Google Chrome Web browser was released in the past week, Browserhawk did not detect the new browser properly (and still does not), so users of the new browser had problems logging in to the site.
Since C...

Video describes how Internet works
This is a pretty cool description of how a web page is delivered on the Internet.
It's cool because it makes the process fairly easy to picture, but in reality it is much more complex for a sophisticated site like Lottery Post, because a web page doesn't just come from one server, and there are dozens or maybe even hundreds of round trips like the one described in the video to dozens of servers for every web page you see. For example, the web page you are viewing r...
