Excellent write-up of how Windows 8 works, plus strengths & weaknesses
Paul Allen, a co-founder of Microsoft (who has not worked for Microsoft for many years) published an excellent article detailing his experience with Windows 8 on both a desktop computer and a tablet. If you are thinking about upgrading to Windows 8 or buying a new computer, I'd highly recommend checking it out. Link: http://www.paulallen.com/TemplateGeneric.aspx?contentId=21...

Here's a scenario faced by practically every developer at one time or another: you want to delete a file, but it refuses to delete because Windows sees the file as locked by another user. Sometimes this can be a real file lock, when a user on a different computer does actually have the file open, or sometimes it can be file-locking junk left over when a computer that did have a lock crashed or suddenly closed an application. There has nev...

IE8 beta probably released too early
I installed and tried out the new IE8 beta, which was released to developers today. IMHO, it was pushed out the door too quickly even for a beta. I would call it more of an alpha . Case in point: Microsoft's own site crashed the browser. Normally I'll leave a beta browser on my computer for at least a couple/few days to give it a fair shake, but IE8 was so unusable that I had to uninstall it within an hour. Yup, that bad. I am very excite...

IE8 Beta 2 is out -- and it's great!
I've been using IE8 exclusively for the past couple of days, and I'm really happy with the product Microsoft has put together! Importantly (for me at least), Lottery Post has been designed to work well with IE8, so you can using IE8 right now with great success at Lottery Post. In fact, the experience at Lottery Post using IE8 is decidedly better than using IE7. There are only a few minor display glitches, and you'd have too look very hard to find them....
