Browser makers say decry the use of antivirus -- except Microsoft Defender
Anyone who has visited my blog in the past probably knows that I have been advocating for years that Windows users should completely remove all anti-virus software except for Microsoft's built-in Defender software (which used to be called Microsoft Security Essentials). Now it seems that major technology companies the companies that build the web browser that you are using right now to look at this post are saying the same thing. Using Mc...

IE10 now available for Windows 7
It's a preview version of Internet Explorer 10 (IE10), but to my eyes it's a complete web browser that is fine for anyone to install. Unlike previous releases of IE10 for Windows 7, this is a complete interface, and it looks and works just like IE9. My expectation is that Microsoft will only make subtle tweaks to this before releasing the final version soon. By subtle , I mean there will probably only be little performance...

Trouble With Vista
I don't have many nice things to say about Vista OR Microsoft 2007 Office. The new desktop computer is not being used for project work right now - the operating system had to be reloaded and some of the software and files have yet to be re-transferred. If I weren't using it for Internet access it'd be about as useful as a boat anchor....

300,000 Messages
I wonder how many other people noticed that we just went over 300,000 messages posted at Lottery Post? That is a tremendous amount of lottery knowledge and data all in one place - a resource unlike anything else in the world. I'm looking forward to the release of Microsoft SQL Server 2005, which has a number of programming facilities that will enable me to build a more robust and fast searching capability. Then the whole Lottery Post forum database will be instan...

By Joseph Menn, Times Staff Writer Stephen Seemayer had the first Pong video game system on his block. A decade later, the Echo Park artist was the first in his neighborhood to get a personal computer. And in 1996, he was so inspired by the World...

Windows XP Operating System and Old Computers.
I am still using Windows XP and it still works just fine. It does because I use Firefox and other browsers based on Firefox that still work with Windows XP. Some software companies and people are just now beginning to make software that doesn't work on Windows XP, but thru the years I have downloaded dozens of freeware programs and the best freeware programs that I could find, so now I have quite a lot of them and for the most part I don't need any more software of any-kin...

Reinstate gadgets on Windows 8!
I have always liked the concept of gadgets in Windows, delivering whatever real-time information you like right on your Windows desktop. In fact, I like gadgets so much that a few years ago I developed the Lottery Results Gadget , which has been installed by people around the world hundreds of thousands of times , and is still running strong today. Now Windows 8 is upon us, and Microsoft has ditched gadgets in fav...
