The $29.95 Non-Believerz
Stats and the Mountain of Tickets Stats sat alone in a weathered old chair, With losing lotto slips piled high everywhere. No job to attend and no paycheck in sight, Yet he checked every drawing from morning till night. He had stacks in the kitchen, stacks under the bed, Stacks on the table where he rested his head. Each ticket a promise, each number a dream, Though the jackpots kept flowing downstream. Impossible odds? Stats would loudly proclaim. No, somebody'

Impact of "Free Money" on Lottery Spending
During the Covid Era and the ensuing Stimulus Checks, there was arguments that the free money was driving lottery sales and the massive jackpots that we saw. Fast forward 2026 - with the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and the Tax incentives - no taxes on over time and tips etc, and with the Tax season almost coming to an end, are we likely to see increased spending on the lottery from the Tax Refunds ? It's the first time in 3 years that I have had a tax refund, I am always paying extra taxe

It looks as if the $5.00 MM ticket is doing poorly.
It took 40 draws, 5 months, to generate an annuity jackpot still sub billion. This is the longest series of rollovers ever recorded for Mega Millions. The Texas lottery, using an estimated sales figures translated into what are presumably Poisson distribution calculations, indicated that the probability of forty rollovers was less than 35%. It follows if one does simple math that more than 40 rollovers would be required to reach annuity jackpots over a billion dollars, and thus is unlik

Mega Millions and Powerball Race
I don't think it's because of the third drawing in a week. People tend to buy lottery tickets on a per-week basis, not a per-drawing basis. I suspect that many people who were buying multiple tickets for the Wednesday and Saturday drawings stuck with the same weekly expenditure or maybe added one more ticket. A lot of other players were probably the ones that have to have their chance, even if it's only one ticket, so that's a lot of people that started spending 50% more. Whatever the

Mega Millions and Powerball Race
Based on the worksheet I figured a roll should be about 1.011 billion, but playing it safe and advertising an even billion isn't a surprise. The most recent worksheet estimates the supported annuity at 1.017. Monday's jackpot finished almost exactly at the estimate for the supported annuity (a hair over 40k higher, based on the numbers I've seen), and last nights was about 3.6 million higher (935.5 vs an estimated 932.4). Now we just wait and see if advertising a jackpot starting with a B will g

Are you playing Mega Millions with the $5.00 per play?
I hear ya MsBee.... I always thought it was nice having 2 options at the same price to have the jackpots rise at noticable rates. The MM is a big yawn and isn't creating the interest that it used to just 10 months ago. Look at the increase for the run for the last Billion dollar jackpot that happened last December 27,2024: https://www.texaslottery.com/export/sites/lottery/Documents/jackpotestimates/mm20241227.pdf It got to the $619M Annuity on Tuesday and the next draw skyrocketed to $6

People would still play. They would come here and rant and rave on how they are not spending a dime on either, but behind the scenes, they be buying tickets The people saying they aren't buying tickets probably aren't. Revenue per draw is up, bu ticket sales are down. Maybe ticket sales will be higher if PB also goes to $4 or $5 because there are plenty of people who have to play some game. If there's not a price difference many of them may play both games instead of just PB. What's

Mega Millions and Powerball Race
I agree I think it's going to end up between 1.45 and 1.5 tonight. The worksheet is reporting a supported annuity of 1.411, and I'd imagine they're still being deliberately conservative, so 1.45 seems likely to be close to the least we should be expecting. Saturday is projected at 1.7 but I'll be surprised if it's not between 1.8 and 1.9 They're forecasting sales of $467 million, and a supported annuity of 1.762, so I'd think it should easily get to 1.8. Based on the current foreca

Are you playing Mega Millions with the $5.00 per play?
I totally agree that it's people who make things a headache. If I were to win something like Powerball, the majority would go into laddered treasury bills, with some in an S P 500 index fund. The last thing I would do is start my own business or invest in any sort of risky business venture. People go broke because they think this sudden windfall of money has given them some sort of insight on how to invest, start or run a business. If you weren't doing any of that before winning the lottery jack

These huge jackpots seem to be a massive headache to manage, even with professionals helping you. To be honest with you, it's people that make it a headache. All you need to do is take your lump sum and buy 10 year Treasury Notes. You get interest payments every six months for 10 years. But when you go down the path of wanting to double and triple your money, that's where the headache starts. Your told to hire advisors, don't forget tax attorneys, oh and the CPA, and the financial plann
