Powerball is still clearly winning the race with a jackpot of $526 million. The increase was $25 million compared to the latest Mega Millions increase of only $16 million. But the Powerball jackpot is growing relatively slowly. The jackpot has rolled 31 times. The 31 roll record is over twice as large as the current jackpot at $1,066 million.

The Mega Millions second tier prize has only been won once in California since the format changed on April 8, 2025. The prize in California is parimutuel and it reached $2.2 million when it was won for the May 9, 2025 draw. The second tier prize is currently twice that amount at $4.4 million. The largest second tier prize was reached in the June 17, 2022 draw and was $7.7 million.

Looks like there is greed on both ends of mega millions, the pots are not rising like they said they would. Charging $5.00 a draw will probably keep the new change going a while. You took some of the excitement away with the price increase pricing a lot of people out of course you knew that.

We can see many players have moved over to Powerball. Even though Mega Millions starts off with a high initial Cash value, it does no good if the players don't support it by not playing. We looked at the current jackpot run weekly average for both and found Powerball gains more cash on a weekly average than Mega Millions. I hope people are boycotting Mega Millions, of no one buys tickets changes will be made for the better. If people keep buying they may jack it up to $10 or even $20 for a single play.

We are also skipping Mega Millions this week. Waiting for the jackpot to get a lot bigger. At least bigger than Powerball. My reasons are very different than MM's reasons, but I'm hoping that we'll see a ridiculously large jackpot in 3 months or so. By that time PB will either have been won or be well beyond the current record. Either way, at $5 per ticket for essentially the same odds I think it's foolish to buy a MM ticket unless it's substantially bigger than PB. Regardless of what PB is

I do not play Mega Millions. As I live in Canada. But I have seen how high the jackpot's get for the game. As well the Powerball lottery, has a large jackpot, as well!
