The pool I am in is still waiting for the jackpot to get a bit bigger before we buy tickets. According to the schedule, it may be next week. Will have to wait much longer before we play the Mega Millions games.

The Mega Millions jackpot increased by the minimum $10 million to $70 million. It is estimated the current jackpot is under funded from sales by about $30.7 million. The last time the jackpot was $70 million, it was under funded by $29 million. That shows the jackpot is growing slower than the last run. This is probably influenced by the much larger $190 million Powerball jackpot

What's the significance in that 1 million? Mega millions is growing by double the amount of PB each draw. My assumption is the reason for that is the difference between the two jackpot amounts.

Mega Millions jackpot increases
They told us that the jackpot would grow faster with the matrix change. That doesn't seem to be the case. The latest jackpot increase is $14MM. The odds of winning the jackpot better than before. I don't see how we are going to get bigger jackpots. It is clear fewer people are playing.

Since the race began when Mega Millions ticket prices were raised to $5, the Powerball jackpot reached about $1.8 billion twice. Whereas, Mega Millions reached just shy of $1 billion only once. What exactly is the race ? If we're talking about bang for the buck(s) PB's cheaper price usually makes it the better bet, but at any given moment the jackpot divided by the ticket cost is as close as there is to a sensible metric for deciding which game to play.
