Yesterday I saw something at a local supermarket's customer service counter that caught my eye. I'd be plenty PO'd at myself too. For just one lousy dollar bill more, I could have had two million. I don't wanna be that guy. Then there's this too - When I play PB, I play three identical lines of five numbers. Each line on my ticket will have a different PB (Red Ball) number. The pay out would be six million minus the taxes if I hit only all five white ball numbers. If I happened to have matched the PB too, I'd win the jackpot with the other two lines kicking in an additional 4 million.

What matters is their profit margin. It really does seem like a lot of people just can't figure that out. I like the argument from hypersoniq that the lottery is memoryless. It does not remember the past draws. This is especially true of ball draws, not sure about computer generated draws. The truth is if there was a system that worked, we would have jackpot winners almost every drawing or every other draw, but we don't, more so for the bigger jackpots, PB, MM and other larger State games like those in Texas and California. The only reason I play is to win a life changing amount. Just one lottery ticket per drawing if the jackpot has reached $250 or more. The new $5 MM ticket price to too rich for me, so in my state the only option is to play PB (when the jackpot is above $250mil), so I actually don't play the lottery too often. I have my kids pick the numbers when it is time to buy a ticket, and adjust the numbers +1 or -1 if they have picked a recently used number. So far the most I have won is $4
