is it luckier to buy tickets on the rich side of town?
This is a classic question in sociology and applied economics, and the answer is well-documented by demographic studies and market research in the United States (such as data from the Brookings Institution, the Tax Foundation, and various state lotteries). The direct answer is: people from all social classes play, but the financial impact, frequency, and motivation are profoundly different between the poorest and the wealthiest. Here is the breakdown of how lottery consumption

Michigan Weekly Breakdown — Fantasy 5 & Lotto 47 Trend Report (April 4-9)
The rules they have are CYA. It's very common and doesn't mean they're trying to cheat you. Ineligibility. Maryland Pick 5 No trip Pairs or Quads. Suspicious
In pick 5 MD lottery has decided to not play quads or trip pairs. 900 total straight Triples and Pairs , 450 Total Quad Straights and 10 Quints =1,360 total numbers out of 100,000= 1.36% chance of landing. It's been almost 700 drawings since either dropped. Which statistically is equivalent to not getting a triple in pick 3 for around 17 months. Maryland also plays triples at a much less rate compared to other states. This year every state with at least 2 draws have dropped anywhere from 12 to 2

Are you playing Mega Millions with the $5.00 per play?
Hoping to match all six? I do not usually even try to speak for others, but this time I will take a chance and say that what you wrote is exactly what everyone here in the forum wants no matter if it is with PB or MM! And, just for grins and giggles and because they will the last drawings of 2025 and the first drawings of 2026 I am going to get 1 PB with Powerplay and 1 MM ticket for each of the next two drawings for each game. P.S. Do you remember your advise to me, that I had

Lottery Numbers Aren't Meant To Be Random
I'm seeing sermons on LP by certain posters preaching that lottery numbers are random. They believe these numbers are ran like a slot machine with the numbers being produced by a computer-based RNG. And they believe we, as players, won't ever be able to predict the next numbers unless we know the seed value and the formula, ...... the harvesting, the gathering, the purging..... So, I took the initiative to research the game I play: Lotto Texas. And I learned its ran by a mechanical

Can AI Be Effectively Be Ued to Win a PB Jackpot?
Even with the RNG games, you cannot predict what numbers come next, assuming that the lottery runs their computers the same way as slot machines. As I work with slot machines, I know how they work. It is as follows: Every slot machine has a computer chip that generates random numbers constantly. It doesn't matter if someone is playing the machine or not. None of them are set to win or lose . None of them have any pattern. If the thing is on, it is generating random numbers. When you

my idea for a multi-state lottery
4) 10 cents of each ticket gets added to the jackpot. Thoughts? I think you've made a mistake, presumably in point 4. You know the chance of matching 6 of 68 is 1 in 109.45 million, so you should expect 1 jackpot winner for every 109.45 million tickets. With 10 cents from each ticket going to the jackpot you'll have just under $11 million each time you pay a winner $25 million. You could do that with an annuity, but if you hand out cash you have a problem. To fully fund a cash prize of $

Powerball
Hey Stat$, how's this with regard to me wasting gas? Yesterday afternoon my wife asked me to go to a butcher shop to order a prime rib for Christmas dinner. Now it so happens that the butcher shop is only 4.6 miles from my house, BUT it's located in different county and I wanted to get a ticket for tonight's drawing anyway because the jackpot is big. I hopped in my car, set the odometer, and off I went to the butcher shop. Seven tenths of a mile from my house is a 7-Eleven that I had to

Mega Millions and Powerball Race
The 40 roll record for Powerball is $2,040.1 million - more than double the current jackpot. A lot more than double this one. The cash value of the PB record jackpot was a hair over $997 million. If this run gets to the same 2.04 billion it will only be worth $941 million, coming up $56 million shy of the record. If this run gets to 2.05 billion PB will brag about a new record, but to simply equal the record we need an annuity of $2.1627 billion if the interest rates stays the same. lot

Florida and Claiming a Jackpot Anonymously
There's something fluky/crazy that I think is kind of interesting that could actually happen in Florida with a second place PowerBall win of either a million (or more) dollars. In Florida, if you win more than $250,000 in any Florida lottery game, you can claim your winnings and remain anonymous, but only for six months! That's per Florida Statute 24.1051 On it's website, The Florida Lottery publishes a PDF file/report called Jackpot Winners Retailers Information . If you win a jac
