The Gamblers Paradox
Talke from this what you wil: Summary The gambler's paradox, often referred to as the gambler's fallacy, is the mistaken belief that past independent events influence future outcomes. This fallacy leads individuals to think that if a particular event has occurred more frequently than expected in the past, it is less likely to occur in the future, and vice versa. Understanding Independence In probability theory, independent events mean that the outcome of one event does not affec

Probability of winning with multiple tickets
Tucker Black, Nope. As for PB and MM each additional ticket reducing the odds by millions is urban legend at best. There is only one set of winning numbers drawn and each set played is an attempt to match that set. Then there's always the possibility that someone with very deep pockets could play enough tickets using your theory to win the jackpot by wait! They read your post but you never mentioned the jackpot might be split by the number of winners! Way back when I first started casino work I

Never did this before
You still don't get it. A lock, sure bet wins. Not puts up some and loses some but is no doubt a winner. You work in a casino and say the dealers takes chips out of the 'tray'. There are no trays, where the chips are is called the bank. One more time, A Lock Is A Bet That Is A Guaranteed Winner, NOT a bet that wins some and loses some to show a gain. Tell casino people that you know about a LOCK bet that will win some and lose some that will be a net gain and see if they politely school you on w

Are you playing Mega Millions with the $5.00 per play?
CDanaT, As for spending one more dollar, I worked in Vegas casinos for 17 years and on casino riverboats for 5. Every pit boss I worked for said that any $1 bet that might win one million dollars is a good bet. There is no doubt they have a wee bit more understanding of gambling on things and betting that you do.

People think gambling is risky.
I feel basically the same way. When people post about taking chances or investing via lottery gambling like they are creating a start up or multinational corporation, that is complete nonsense. .No executive built a major company from lottery winnings. If someone was meant to build a company, they would have found a way to do it. Winning a huge jp does not make one a financial or business genius.

"Let me borrow a dollar", turns into $500-15,000 win.
First of all, I would NEVER borrow money to play lotto!! If you do borrow money to play lotto, then you have a serious gambling problem and need help.

Born to Kvetch
I worked in Vegas casinos from 1977 to 1993, I was talking about those times, the tail End of the old days and the chaos when Atlantic City opened and went on to ruin what had been a very good thing. In the 'old days' if a game had a very good night ( won big) the boss would grab some 'blacks', throw them to the dealers and say, 'Here you go boys, good job. That was then. After AC opened things went corporate and all departments were told to make a profit, thus drinks were being sold for awhile.

MM $5, PB $2, Powerplay $1I
If they're struggling financially, that's the time they SHOULD be gambling! Like Bob Dylan said, When you ain't got nuthin', you got nuthin' to lose.

The Florida Millionaire Raffle is back!
I think they're doing a raffle as just a way to shake it up and try something different. Raffles do well in other states, so maybe they can catch on here too. I'd think that a first or second time (in so many years) might fly under the radar, but bring awareness to this new way to play after it concludes and later if a new round begins. This round would advertise the next, so to speak, as people who didn't play hear about the winnings. A loss of revenue once isn't a loss if it becomes a spri

Probability of winning with multiple tickets
I would be shocked if a casino sold books about gambling with any truth in them. They need people to make bad bets. I didn't say each additional ticket cuts the odds in half. I said the odds of you winning is (odds of one ticket winning) divided by (number of tickets). Use my pick 2 example. What are the odds of me winning if I buy 2 tickets? How about 5 tickets?
