It looks as if the $5.00 MM ticket is doing poorly.
It took 40 draws, 5 months, to generate an annuity jackpot still sub billion. This is the longest series of rollovers ever recorded for Mega Millions. The Texas lottery, using an estimated sales figures translated into what are presumably Poisson distribution calculations, indicated that the probability of forty rollovers was less than 35%.
It follows if one does simple math that more than 40 rollovers would be required to reach annuity jackpots over a billion dollars, and thus is unlik

Mega Millions 10 Million Increase rollover.
What affects the top line. Annuity amount is interest rates, and sales. Sales of mega millions are down. An interest rates have dropped so the long-term pay payout it's less for every cash dollar invested

Mega Millions and Powerball Race
Based on the worksheet I figured a roll should be about 1.011 billion, but playing it safe and advertising an even billion isn't a surprise. The most recent worksheet estimates the supported annuity at 1.017. Monday's jackpot finished almost exactly at the estimate for the supported annuity (a hair over 40k higher, based on the numbers I've seen), and last nights was about 3.6 million higher (935.5 vs an estimated 932.4). Now we just wait and see if advertising a jackpot starting with a B will g

Are you playing Mega Millions with the $5.00 per play?
The sales numbers were appalling lower, both in revenue and in tickets sold.
It's pure nonsense to say that it improved the profit margin. This isn't widgets. It gambling. The prize payout percentages are not appreciably different.
The gamble of raising the price to gamble isn't paying off. The competition, which is Powerball, is obviously a better deal.
Even as the prize approached a billion dollars, the expectation value didn't even get to 0.5. At a jackpot a little over half a bi

Mega Millions and Powerball Race
I may be the only one on this site that likes the Mega Millions game .
I'm pretty sure I like it too. I just haven't started playing it yet. Since the first time they broke the $1 billion mark, PB has offered 3 jackpots advertised at more than $1.7 billion, all in the last 3 years. With slower growth I don't expect MM to manage similar results in only 3 years, but the same basic probability as BP at $5 per ticket should theoretically give us 3 jackpots about twice that size. I mostly prefer

I hear ya WP...... My last MM purchase was 12/26/24.... I wont be playing until the jackpot reaches the $500M Cash Value which should put the annuity at around $1.103 Billion range. They have shot themselves in the foot on this latest move.

Did Hell freeze over?
If you want to know the before and after taxes, cash and annuity amounts for MM and PB just click on USA MEGA and then jackpot analysis. Then select your state.

Did Hell freeze over?
I just checked the NY lottery website for the first time in a couple of weeks or so, and they've made a major change. Right on the home page, in the prominent boxes that show the jackpots (for PB, MM, and NY Lotto), and in a font that's not the smallest font on the page, they're showing the actual cash value of the estimated annuity jackpots.

June 2001 -August 2023 for the Cash Value staying above the 50% point of the Annuity. That is a long time to being use to having that figure. Let's see how long this below 50% period lasts. Good luck to all on your next lottery purchase.
