It was definitely because of the patterns on the playslip. In my state (Nebraska) two people won $1 million. The playslip for Nebraska shows those numbers as a column, and I bet the Nebraska $1 million winners also won this way. This reminds me of the story years ago when a bunch of people won the second place prize of $100,000 from a fortune cookie. This type of thing would only happen once in over a decade.
