2026 tax rates now published at USA Mega
Both the federal tax rate brackets and the state income tax rates used for the Powerball Jackpot Analysis and Mega Millions Jackpot Analysis pages at USA Mega have been updated to the latest 2026 rates.
Federal tax bracket changes happen every year, with the IRS adjusting each bracket upwards slightly to account for inflation. For a lottery jackpot winner claiming millions in income this results in a minuscule change in taxes paid, but the adjustment at USA Mega does make it exact.

On the left side of this screen is a list various places to access. At the bottom of the list is a colorful squarelink to USA MEGA, click that
When the USA MEGA page opens up, on the left side you will see Mega Millions or Powerball and under each of those is Jackpot Analysis , click that
When that page opens up, scroll down and find your state and it will show you the annuity payments with deductions for taxes if you are single or married.

Is this Mega Millions cash value tax calculation correct? (Florida example)
Click on USA MEGA, then select MM, Jackpot Analysis. Select your filing status and get the payouts for both cash and annuity for any state.

If you want to know the before and after taxes, cash and annuity amounts for MM and PB just click on USA MEGA and then jackpot analysis. Then select your state.

Any prize over $600 on a single ticket is taxable no matter the game. You have to fill out a claim form and send or take to your local lottery office. Google your state lottery and the website will give you instructions on how to file a claim. Federal tax is 24%. The state tax varies from state to state. If you go on the home page and click on USA MEGA and then Jackpot Analysis for MM or PB it will tell you the fed and state tax amounts for each state depending on your filing status.

Hate to give you the bad news but if you win in Va, but live in Md, you will pay the Va 4% initial withholding at time of payout, 5.75% total tax due, plus the difference between that and Md's 9.5% state tax. And the 24% fed taxes.
Go to USA MEGA, click on MM FAQ's or PB FAQ's, scroll down past the state tax tables and read the section,
