Virginia Lottery Director Khalid R. Jones appointed as Mega Millions Lead Director
The states are constantly leaning on those who run the lotteries to generate more revenue. I'm sure that's what led to them bumping up the cost and odds on the MM. States love it when jackpots are high and millions are pouring in each drawing because people who don't normally play are chasing the billion dollar payouts. I imagine a meeting after the last big jackpot got hit when the weekly revenues dropped back to normal levels. The question is asked how do we change things to get those big

Couple tests Quick Picks vs. chosen numbers theory and winds up with favorable result By Kate Northrop A Kentucky couple won a $225,000 Cash Ball 225 lottery prize using a set of sweet and sentimental numbers near and dear to them. A retired couple won a $225,000 prize in Cash Ball 225, a lottery game local to Kentucky, after picking up the game a year ago. The husband-and-wife pair, who wished to remain anonymous, will purchase three plays on their tickets. The first set is thei

Arizona lottery retailer employee sued after buying $12.8 million ticket knowing it was a winner
Returned tickets have odds that are just as crummy as any other lottery tickets, so I wouldn't buy them just because they were returned (printed by mistake or the would-be player didn't have enough money). What retailers should do, like any retailer with excess merchandise, is offer them at 50% off. I'll buy them.

Millionaire for Life multi-state lottery game to replace Cash4Life and Lucky for Life in February
I suspect that Florida 1) doesn't think M4L will fly at $5 a ticket; 2) doesn't need a game with nearly identical odds as Florida Lotto yet a sad bottom line compared to Lotto; and 3) They might be trying to salvage the Jackpot Triple Play game by stretching it out to seven days a week. And, one extra Lotto drawing would more than replace M4L revenue and income. For the life of both games, Lotto has grossed $3.4M per draw after paying out prize money- C4L only $113K.

New Jersey couple wins $3 million lottery prize six months after winning $1 million
That makes no sense. If you buy 1000 PB tickets, your chances of winning go up to 1 in 3 million (assuming you pick different numbers on them). Picking out the two big winners from a huge stack and then declaring the odds of that being the same as just two tickets is illogical.

New Jersey couple wins $3 million lottery prize six months after winning $1 million
The 1 in 1.2 trillion odds means the probability of buying just two tickets, each of which is a massive winner. That is not what these people did. They bought lots of lottery tickets between the two big winners. They are very lucky, but not quite 1 in 1.2 trillion lucky.

One Georgia ticket wins $983 million Mega Millions jackpot
You're either a player or not for one drawing. No one is expected to play every drawing. Only dummies play every drawing. The price and ridiculously low odds make it a terrible bet unless the jackpot gets really really high.

Idaho Lottery alerts retailers to possible bulk buying attempt over $877,800 Idaho Cash jackpot
You are correct that no one did anything wrong in buying the tickets because they broke no existing law. However the point is that everyone should get an equal chance and the game should be such that the number of tickets sold per draw has a reasonable chance of winning. That can be deduced by looking at the historical number of tickets per draw. The Texas Lotto, Lotto America, Montana Cash and Idaho Cash fail in that respect. As an example, recently it took Lotto America (2) entire year

Arizona Lottery bans Fast Play bulk ticket purchases
Personally, I don't think anyone even buys bulk Fast Plays as it doesn't make sense mathematically. Fast Plays are like slot machines which are intended to give the house an 80%+ advantage. Jackpots on the other hand have fixed odds -- the more combinations you play the more you're likely to win. So gonna wait and see if the AZ Lottery gives any explanation for the reasoning behind the decision.
