$1.5 BILLION: Massive Powerball jackpot fuels rush for tickets
Last night hit cash out button on the Historic Racing Machine for $1903. Slots are illegal in KY, so they 'skirt' the law by using altered slot machines to reflect old horse races. Low bets with a jackpot win of $600 and above are subject to Federal and State taxes and machine shuts off until reset after payout. However if you bet 'high' jackpots aren't taxed. A guy yesterday doing $100 bets won $5200 and $8500 and slot attendant said there was one other too. None of them taxable.

$1.1 BILLION: Powerball jackpot increased in longest-ever winless streak
@ShagE3 Yes, you'd have to establish residency in the new state - buy or rent a property, set up utilities with a billing record, transfer driver licence car rego etc etc - and this wouldn't be quick or cheap. Unless you had money lying around, you'd have to sell your place in the old state first, to fund the shift to the new state. 180 days would be doable, 90 days probably not. If you knew you were going to claim a huge prize, you could sell your current property on the cheap to facilitate a q

$1.1 BILLION: Powerball jackpot increased in longest-ever winless streak
Yes, that would be much simpler and fairer. Taxes should be built into the price of the ticket, although I understand each state has different taxes and you wouldn't have a flat ticket price. Let's be honest, unless you take the actual cash and stuff it in a mattress, the winnings will be spent or invested and thus taxed at every stage - profits, dividends, interest, stamp duties, sales taxes etc etc etc.
Here in Australia our Powerball jackpots are obviously much lower given our population

Colorado Lottery approves credit card purchases and online ticket sales
IDK about other states but here in Kentucky when I use my card (rarely) it only charges me the $10.00. I'd guess the lottery picks up the 1-2% service charge for the transaction. I never use my debit card.
For the third year in a row GA lotto machines say 'coming soon debit/credit'. Found one machine so far that had been upgraded, however it didn't work. They also are VERY slow in upgrading their highway billboards. Only one that we saw had the million/billion jackpots electronic. All

Mega Millions jackpot closes in on $1 billion
Of course they will sell fewer tickets because of the higher price. That is a given. The real analysis is how fast the jackpot grows due to dollars spent. And in that regard, I'd say it's growing slower than before.
Correct. Players are currently voting with their dollars with jackpots at levels we've seen in the past. But how will they vote with their dollars should MM set a new jackpot record? That's what we haven't seen yet. I think eventually that will happen, and it should be interesti

New Millionaire for Life multi-state game coming in 2026
Headache somewhat gone so reread the article. Totally missed the million dollars/life sentence.
My understanding is the LFL from CT is RNG, while C4L from NJ is still mechanical ball drawings, correct?
With the $5 Mega Millions ticket with fast increasing jackpots (allegedly) and this one fixed @ a million and terrible odds don't foresee this as a feasible lottery.

Data breach at lottery tech vendor Brightstar exposes personal info of over 100,000 individuals
Very good points. Didn't 'they' say the jackpots would grow faster? They don't.
Also you mentioned they should reduce the tax rate, that's on the IRS not the lottery. As far as I could tell a couple of years ago there is no lottery lobbyist group to help on that. Just recently the IRS finally nudged up the taxable rate from $1200 to $2K; several Congress folks wanted it to $5K on slot machine wins.
My friend scanned his ticket @ home...$100 winner. Lady @ store tried slight of

$1.3 BILLION: Powerball jackpot soars to 5th-largest in game history
About nine months ago was in Georgia. They have billboards with the jackpot amounts on them. Nosy bones here sent them an email to update the billboards to reflect billion dollar jackpots. We were there last weekend...one billboard that we saw was updated, other ones just said $999 million, so it's a start. Noticed though in the stores that were frequented the LED signs still only went to $999 million.
Last night CBS Evening News. News scroll said FRIDAY's Powerball $1.7 billion. Called
