RJOh: If a lottery game is annuity-only , then there is CORRUPTION.

How do you lose by Winning big?
Lottery winners receiving annuity payments (cash option or not) invite more lottery CORRUPTION, such as in Mass, since their 6/49 and 6/42 still are ANNUITY-ONLY.

Hoosier Lotto
A week ago I heard on the news that the lottery sold 1.6 million tickets. Just where do they get their math? Based on odds and payouts I figured the sales to be over 6 million tickets. This did not include those tickets with zero and 1 number on them. The odds for those should be about 1 in 3. I would estimate that there were at least 3 million of those. Overall, the total sales should be in the range of 9 to 10 million tickets. Ok, where is the other 8 million? Let me tell you, I have played

Wisconsin SuperCash $$
I just received an e-mail that a player from Illinois claimed a jackpot winning ticket from the November 3 drawing. Given the corruption in Illinois, I don't blame him one bit for coming to Wisconsin.

Do they know what numbers to avoid picking or what?
I'm waiting for a new season of that to come on. I'd rather have corruption in gub' ment exposed. But I guess lotteries could fall into the category some where.

Powerball now behind on cash
US lotteries were annuity-only to support companies that would make money off of players' winnings. This corruption still exists, to a smaller degree (mostly in MA and NY).

MM annuity equivalent in PB: $93M.
This is not generally the case. When Argentina experienced hyperinflation in the 1980's from policies rather like those of our present government, excessive spending for non-productive purposes and to service massive gov't corruption, people who held overseas investments did OK. In fact, they were able to live extremely well in Argentina because they had access to foreign exchange. I note that before the 1980's, Argentina was considered financially unassailable. If I won the lottery I would i

RJ: Mass. DOES NOT allow 6/42 or 6/49 winners to collect in lump sum. In addition, almost all scratch prizes over $200,000 are NOT paid in cash. I consider it corruption since such winnings unnecessarily go through a third party (ie, annuity provider). Companies that sell annuities to the Mass. Lottery (and the NY Lottery to a lesser extent) make huge amounts of money simply because the lottery winners didn't have a cash option.

Megamillions picks...01/28/03
Andy: You didn't read me. I will NEVER buy a ticket for a game where the top prize(s) are NOT paid in lump sum. Annuity-only prizes still happen because of LOTTERY CORRUPTION.

NY subscription winner a LOSER
I agree with the corruption view...the MA lotteryhas already proven to be rife with it accordingto a report issued last year. This is, after all, the lottery that Whitey Bulger won and where winning scratch tickets have turned up in the same storesand families way more than chance would dictate. Andit is inexcusable - after all, the money is there, what possible non-corrupt reason can they have fornot writing a lump sum check? I just got a new seasonticket, so I have a year to think about it.
