Since the Powerball jackpot was just won, again it is highly unlikely it will catch up to the Mega Millions jackpot. I'm fairly sure PB can catch up, but it will take a long time. The last time they each got past a $900 million annuity PB took just over 3 months (9/8 to 12/10) to reach 930. MM (with 2/3 as many drawings per week) took 4 1/2 months (7/1 to 11/14) to reach 980. If you take the For Life annuity, it pays out weekly instead of annually. $7k minus taxes so $4.5k ish direct deposited every week is a very good paycheck. Yes I would under the following conditions. 1. Keep the ticket cost at $2 2. Remove the annuity nonsense and only have cash value 3. Like most countries in Europe - give zero $$$ to Uncle Sam as taxes. And, as always, I fervently hope that the guy in Washington D.C. would issue an executive order making a mandatory interest rate of 0.00% for all lottery annuities and removing taxation for all lottery winnings, forever. 2 primary items are of concern for this participant when it comes to the choice of going with the C ash value vs Annuity . 1) Taxes 2) Age I know that the 37% tax figure will be addressed this year just 1 time and no state income tax. There are no assurances that my state(TN) couldn't implement a 1 time tax similar to what CA WA states are proposing or start a state income tax.
