Mega Millions and Powerball Race
I did not day I did not know how many are in the pool. Second, I trust the guy running the pool. And third, I am only spending a few bucks. It is not the end of the world. I am just in for the fun of it.

Office Pool concept
The job of collecting money exists only when you run it as a subscription service. That's why I suggest not doing so. When the only people who participate are the ones who hand you cash, there are no debts to collect. No money? No participation, end of story. One way to simplify things is to open the pool for entries for all drawings over the next week, or all drawings over the next two weeks (as opposed to each drawing individually or allow people to buy in for any number of drawings they w

Mega Millions and Powerball Race
You and I are doing similarly. I played 4 tickets with no duplicated numbers and received zero cash for my efforts. Two tickets had no hits. One ticket had 1 hit. One ticket had two hits and missed the powerball by 1. I had 21 and needed 22 for $25. As Agent 86 would say: Missed it by thaaaat much. It was my fault entirely, I picked the 21 powerball so I can't complain that the lottery terminal shafted me on that one. The Saturday draw was as close as I have ever been for the win. Th

MegaMillions ticket reprint fraud by a store associate?
Hi all lottery gurus, We ran into a weird situation yesterday and I'd love to get your take on it, please. We run an office pool when jackpot hits 1BN, and this drawing is one of those we normally play. Our pool reaches $700-800 most of the time and we usually buy ~$100-150 in tickets at multiple stores. Yesterday, my friend came to one of the stores and first went to a self-service machine. She bought $100 worth of tickets - twenty $3 entries and twenty $2 entries. They got printed out

Covering Designs - MM and PB
This is a mathematical covering design (or lottery wheel) that reduces the total number pool of Powerball/Mega Millions into just 350 combinations of 12-number sets . This specific optimization guarantees a 100% catch-rate for a 3-match and a 50% probability of hitting a 4-match , significantly lowering the cost while maintaining high efficiency.

New Jersey Pick 6 jackpot-winning ticket worth $5.9 million expiring in three weeks
Ticket expires May 22 at the Eisenhower Exxon in Roseland, Essex County - winning numbers 20-21-30-31-42-44 from that May 22, 2025, drawing. There's also a $50k Powerball from the same day unclaimed at D'Latinos in West New York, so double the urgency for NJ players to dig out old tickets. Hate seeing these roll back into the prize pool, especially with the app making checks so easy now.

Probability of winning with multiple tickets
Tucker, thank you for the very concise explanation. I agree with you 100%. Unfortunately, the people that already did not believe what you wrote will probably not be convinced. They do not want to admit they were once mistaken. Improving the odds is exactly why I only buy tickets as a member of a pool. I never buy a ticket on my own. Yes, I could win a pick 3 game but winning $500 is not very exciting for me. Winning the Mega Millions or Powerball games is nearly impossible when buying y

It looks as if the $5.00 MM ticket is doing poorly.
Another thing that's not rocket science. They're not in the red, but when the winner chooses the cash value of $27.1 million there's only going to be about $12 million in the prize pool. The non-jackpot prizes require about 22% of sales revenue, so that's about $9.5 million of the $42.7 million they took in for the two drawings. Add the $27.1 million and they get to pay out about $36.6 million. That's roughly 85% of revenue, and about $15 million more than they planned.

ideal lottery pool size
Just me. One time I tried to join a very small lottery pool (total two people) but the other person forgot to purchase the ticket before the cut-off time.
