NC Powerball winner identifies herself
She kind of forced it upon herself after she came out announcing to the world that she had won the jackpot. She was confronted by what she called crazy people and had to get a security team to protect her and her children. In hindsight, I am sure she now realizes it was foolish to expose herself right away before even redeeming her ticket.

A security detail ??...Reeeeeally ? shoulder shrug I am thinking it would have been much simpler to not talk and kept your winnings between the legal financial team..but I could be wrong.....Marie, congrats on your win but remember, silence is golden. Good luck young lady.

NC Powerball winner identifies herself
Glad to hear that she has a security team. Her family should be safe and I hope she is able to ground her children as the temptation to spoil them will be hard to control. Every mother including myself wants to nurture their child and in her case it will take will power not to give in to their every desire.

In one of the stories she stated she has a security detail that goes with her everywhere! It also said she will be appearing on Good Morning America this week for an interview. She is getting her 15 minutes of fame. Congratulations to Marie Holmes.

More big Lottery winners using trusts to stay anonymous
Lotteries/newspapers do not print peoples social security numbers. If they do, please post a link to an article where they do because I would really like to see that.

Bill would allow Texas Lottery winners to pay for anonymity
Seems to me that in a way it sounds like a sort of Protection Racket : http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Protection+Racket A business combination of extortion schemes controlled by a criminal syndicate. For the promise of security, significant sums of money are seized from persons, businesses, communities, or even nations. ---------- Protection Racket : Extortion schemes for the promise of security, significant sums of money are seized from persons. -----------

It's time the lottery needs to stop releasing a person name and picture when a big win is won!
Or you could not worry about it and walk around with the ticket the next day showing it to TV reporters. All the paranoia everyone seems to exhibit such as getting a security team together and moving from your home. And this young girl just waltz's around with the ticket having the time of her life. Maybe we all worry about it too much!

$450 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot nears record
Actually, quite a few have received threats, especially when the number is high. Many of them have had to get the police involved because the threats were that serious. The Morrisons hired a security detail to stay with everyone in their immediate family in the week after their names were announced. I can think of 2 winners off the bat who had to get the FBI involved. There are a lot of greedy wackos out there who wouldn't think twice about killing someone for their lottery winnings.

Safely Investing Your Winnings...Or Not
I would basically invest in index funds like Vanguard, Fidelity, T Rowe Price, including some gold, TIPSs, and real estate funds. Also, I would probably try to find someone to protect my family's physical and indentity security. There's way too many Robin Hoods out there.

dishonest store clerks
That's essentially the same thing I do, though my threshold is somewhat higher - I'll cash up to $50, and occasionally, even $100. Anything more, and I go to trusted lottery retailers who have a good track record, and willing to payout upwards of $500 without fuss. PA Lottery self-service terminals will redeem winning tickets up to $600, allowing one to buy more tickets right away ... and, in a round about way get some cash back by playing out most of the winnings and getting a voucher for th
