Mega Millions And Powerball Odds Are Approaching The Size Of The Usa Population Of 318.9 Million.
Well, if you spend money you can't afford chasing Mega Millions/Powerball then yeah it's kind of stupid. But spending a couple of dollars for a chance to win (even if you probably won't) isn't a big deal. People obviously do win so it's worth it to most players.

Dozens of 'dead people' collected NJ lottery prizes last year
Multi-million dollar lottery winners instantly become targets by criminals, scam artists, and thieves. If they win a large enough Mega Millions jackpot, it can seem as if the entire country has placed a target on their backs.

How many Millions would set you for life?
Which was split by three people. So you have to worry about that, and also the jackpot doesn't get that high often. Usually someone wins it before. Mega Millions only had one time where it went over 400 million last year. And one time for PB.

What is the highest amount you have spent in one draw game?
I am willingly to risk $1000 in a draw game. Preferably Mega Millions since the jackpot is at over $70 million. In state games are good even if it's a starter but I want a retirement jackpot win. If it's not wise to risk that much to maybe get at least a second prize win of $1 million dollars, then should that much be risked in any one draw game?

Taxes and the Big-One
I mentioned that very thing in this November thread: $321 MILLION: Mega Millions jackpot is red hot and KY Floyd had this to say about making money off the difference - 14.6% - between the 25% initial withholding and the total 39.6% due the federal govt. I read up on it some, not wanting to take a single source as gospel and it looked like he was correct. I follow a Forbes financial writer (who has written several articles about the lottery) on Twitter (not that I'm an avid user of that particul

Powerball is kicking it up-10 millionaires were made tonight!!.
Amazing how even $300 million advertised annuity jackpots aren't exciting. Main reason seems to be jackpot fatigue - it's no longer new, etc. Also many players now perceive the odds of winning to be not just astronomical, but rather seemingly impossible (especially so with Mega Millions after its matrix change). Plus, to add insult to injury, the doubled price.
And more savvy players see through the overly inflated annuity jackpot amount; don't trust the estimates at all, since Powerball does
