N.M. Lottery chief wants to scrap earmark for educationNews Story
The head of the New Mexico Lottery says his organization could provide more money for students if the Legislature scrapped a requirement pledging 30 percent of ticket sales to college scholarships. David Barden, chief executive officer of the lottery, said eliminating the requirement would allow for larger cash prizes and higher-priced lottery tickets, such as a $20 model. In the long run, Barden said, that change would pay off with more money from the lottery going to the college scholarship

I don't try to be a downer, just a realist. The part that gets to me most is the folks that spend their last $1 thinking they have a real-world chance of winning because all the advertising leads them to believe so. Truth is, NCEL is skewed against them (P3, scratchers, etc) In addition, 4 schools in Salisbury closed because they could not get funding to keep them open......just sad given the increase in revenue this year (Record setting again) Losing more often the past 3 years?
