Florida CPA revealed as winner of $396.9 million Powerball drawing
She knows what she's doing and she'll be fine.
If she knows what she'd doing why didn't she hire a lawyer to claim the prize for her so could remain anonymous?
Or maybe she's just the one whose name is on the paperwork for the winner who is remaining anonymous. Her office is about 3 1/2 hours away from where the ticket was sold, so it's a pretty safe bet that she didn't nip out and buy the ticket on her lunch break. OTOH, I don't really see somebody looking for an accountant that far awa

I've read that Illinois Anonymous , is it true / false.
I have heard back from the Illinois Lottery. Lottery winners in the state can indeed remain anonymous if they win $250,000 or more. However, keep in mind, as is the case in many or all of these anonymous states, an open records request possibly can be used to dig out the winner's identity. Kudos to the Illinois Lottery for mentioning this possibility. Rarely do you see a state being up-front about this.
I have updated the Illinois information on the Anonymity thread, and I have also placed a

Powerball $396.9 million winning lottery ticket sold in Florida
paymentplan-man,
As more and more states allow winners to remain anonymous those states don't have any problems with doing so, neither do the countries that allow it.
To bad you weren't here when justxploring was posting..........she once posted about a jackpot winner who was told he couldn't claim anonymously, so he sued the state lottery and won.....becoming famous for winning his case to remain anonymous.

Lottery winner from UK claims £170m EuroMillions jackpot
The lucky winner of Tuesday's record 170 million (US$209 million / 190 million) EuroMillions jackpot draw has come forward, the UK National Lottery has said.
Camelot, the operator of the United Kingdom National Lottery, had previously confirmed the winning ticket, worth an incredible 170,221,000, was bought somewhere in the UK.

Wisconsin Republicans to hold hearing on lottery privacy bill
I'm not a fan of anonymous winners. It takes the excitement out if it. Part of the entertainment is hoping to snag the BIG jackpot. Then if you don't win, waiting to read the news report on who won. If you're lucky a few questions to the new multi-millionaire. Most people have no real threat to their lives. It is a perceived threat. So basically you are acting out of FEAR.
Currently there are ways to get around your name being published, such as a trust or hiring lawyers to claim on your beh

Wisconsin Republicans to hold hearing on lottery privacy bill
I was researching per capita lottery spending for ea. state a few yrs. ago because I was one of those who argued for transparency in the lottery, but mostly because I do believe the lottery entities when they say it drives sales. Who doesn't like to see some winner grinning from ear-to-ear while holding that big check? It's just not the same when it's Some anonymous winner in Texas is now a hundred million dollars richer! Anyway... I found just one comparison that could make my case and that was

Growing number of states move to shield lottery winners
Where do you get that fact ? When I Google most successful lottery in the world I get results for MegaMillions and Powerball, then several stories later an article that mentions El Gordo and on down the list I see an article about EuroMillions...but nothing about which one is the most successful.
When I Googled UK lottery sales before and after anonymity I got an article about Camelot setting a record for lottery sales, but it was about them surpassing their own previous sales mark, no com

Growing number of states move to shield lottery winners
A growing number of states are moving to allow the winners of big lottery jackpots to stay anonymous as privacy concerns are increasingly trumping lottery groups' wishes to publicize winners to boost sales and show that the games are fair.
Arizona could be the next state to join at least nine others with laws that let winners keep their names secret under a proposal headed to Republican Gov. Doug Ducey. Four years ago, just five states allowed anonymous winners, and a handful of others allowe
