Hi, strings(R2/R4) are just variations of pool size (0 thru 8). The pool size has been randomized 2000x,4000x,6000x and 8,000x , hence the denotations R2,R4 ..R8. The ideal is to find stucture/patterns to stay focus without much analysis. All you need is to focus on patterns and understand permutation/combinations.

Megamillions number frequency - probability puzzle
In Megamillions there are 70 numbers in the main lotto pool (not counting the Megaball). 5 numbers are drawn from this pool in each game. Consider 50 random game draws. What is the probability that at least one number (ball) will (a) never occur in the 50 draws, and (b) occur in at least 10 game draws?

I ran a small (8-12) pool at work for several years which was fun, but I would never ever join a pool of strangers, especially people from around the country, or even just in my state.

Just the jackpot is a great option for playing in a pool. No, it's not! Let's say there are 20 people in your pool and you get the five white balls which would normally be worth $1,000,000 (or $2 mil or more if multiplier is purchased) your pool gets ZERO, ZILCH, NADA, $0. So now, in stead of everyone in the pool getting $50,000 (or $100,000 or more with Megaplier) you don't get anything. Sorry, but Just the Jackpot is not a great option at all.

Sounds like straight pool, which I never played. Most of the guys at the pool hall where I grew up played 8 ball and 9 ball.

A lawsuit over a pool of players paying the lottery- that's a shocker. (I'm surprised that owners of a retailer selling lottery tickets can form a pool- legal in Australia apparently. I don't think it's permitted in NY or other states?).

That scenario has happened before. That's why it's important to keep very good records, have a very detailed operating agreement and make everyone sign it if you're part of a lottery pool. Better yet, don't play in a pool in the first place and then you will never have that kind of trouble.

You make a great point about more lottery pools winning if it was just about buying more tickets. I chose not to be part of the lottery pool at my office after reading about various lawsuits from lottery pool members and their crazy stories. They said they never won more than $100 even though they played for years.
