If I ignore the truth, that purpose of the lottery is to take money away from you, not to give it to you, I agree with the premise. I would love to see Mega or Powerball go to some concept of where paying an extra dollar or two and doubling or trippling the jackpot. Obviously it would result in lower base jackpots, but, when you hit, man would it be nice! This is a jackpot game. The smaller prizes are there so you can feel like you won something. I don't understand why people play jackpot games to win second prize or lower prizes. Maybe you don't understand how good this in-state game is compared to other states where you have to wait forever for the jackpots to grow! How do you know these folks have no problems being so high profile? I remember several years ago when Paul Allen (co-founder of Microsoft) had his identify stolen. You hardly every hear of the ones who win large jackpots going broke and worse who do not flaunt the fact that they win. They keep it private. The ones that get the headlines for the most part, are those that love all the attention a big win brings. However along with that attention comes those who want to part you from your money.

It matter not one iota what the lotteries will or won't allow. They have zero influence on taxes. Z-E-R-O! The lottery only passes out the money, they don't tax it. You do the paperwork up front and uncle doesn't care either. Just so it is legal (in the eyes of the government) and they get every thing that is owed them. Every thing is the key phrase. If there is a pre-dated document itemizing who gets what (percentage or actuals) the tax man will be happy to tell you what he wants from you.

A test had been done at rec.lottery,and it shows that randonness beats human picks for the most part of time. If you only play 10 bucks,its better to use random ones,as most jackpots are won in 10 bucks. A mature lottery pool at least needs constant investment of 250 bucks per time for 10 rounds,and may get a second prize. Hans

Maybe but I am talking about the Jackpots. Maybe there was one Jackpot that wasn't near Detroit but I don't remember it. If there was one that was not near Detroit I bet it would be posted on the Michigan lottery website...but I don't see any. Anyway That couple that won this jackpot really do seem nice. The only winner that I did not have a good feeling about is that guy from Metro Detroit that just won the MM $135 Million.
