Pennsylvania $457 million jackpot winners kept anonymous
Rook, States and countries that do allow winners to remain anonymous don't seem to be having any problems by doing so. Revealing sinners identities eventually really isn't going to do much for people in rural towns or impoverished urban communities. Whether someone lives where remaining anonymous is allowed, or not, and they suspect a lottery of being rigged does make one wonder why they play.

Pennsylvania $457 million jackpot winners kept anonymous
So I thought this was impossible in PA...but the $457 M jackpot won in PA in March 2018 was claimed by the attorney representing the Emerald Legacy Trust. The attorney was from a large powerful law firm. I have now marked that law firm as part of my potential team for claiming a large winning ticket. I play wherever I travel, but always had a preference for the states that allow one to claim anonymously. I did not see a post on this in the discussion forum, so started this thread.

Mega Millions Tuesday 7/17/2018
The paying someone for their silence is why I sometimes waffle on remaining anonymous. Sometimes I feel it is very important. Other times I feel like I should just out myself and then move on. If no one can hold their silence over my head or I don t have to worry about someone inadvertently saying something it might be liberating in its own way. Sometimes (like this jackpot) I can t decide so I buy tickets in a jurisdiction that allows anonymous claiming and I buy some in a jurisdiction

NH Powerball lottery winner sues for anonymity
Are you going to let people take photos with YOUR winning ticket, especially if you plan on being anonymous? Please explain. The reason to take a picture is in case someone steals the ticket. Then you have grounds to challenge the win, at that point you lose a chance for being anonymous, but at least you will get your money.

Georgia group fights to prevent lottery winners from claiming anonymously
This is nuts! People should have the right to remain anonymous, if they want. We don't go around telling people how much we earn, so why should lottery prize money be any different? Here in Australia, winner hardly every choose publicity. The public accept that, because if they were in a similar position, they would also like to remain anonymous. State Governments should pass laws giving lottery winners the right to anonymity. If they don't, the Donald should issue an Executive Order. Tha

Indiana Powerball winner claims $435 million jackpot anonymously
Did you seriously just say only $189 million ? I will take only $189 million any day. Would be the same as $400 million to me as I would never spend all of either. I think someone else on here also said only $800 million for that 1.5 billion dollar jackpot. That much money and you are worried about the taxes? Talk about greed. You would never have even close to that much otherwise after taxes. You will have more money than most even after the taxes, just how many hundred millions do you REALLY n

Interesting way to avoid being hassled ?
State lotteries withhold 25% in federal taxes from all winnings over $50,000 and state taxes are deducted where it applies. For instance I live in Kentucky and 25% federal tax would be withheld and another 6% in state taxes is deducted. If I won a $50,000 prize I get a check for $29,500. From there if I donated 95% ($28,025) to charity, I could claim that against the $12,500 in withheld federal tax. However, when he filed income tax next spring, he could claim maximum allowed charitable giv

Remaining anonymous
This is a false equivalence if I ever saw one. Unions seek to improve conditions for employees, not expose them to more danger. If some states allow for anonymity other players in other states should not be disadvantaged just for living in a different locale. Are you telling me if you played in an anonymous state and had the option to stay anonymous you would do a full press conference without even considering using your right to anonymity?

Idaho Lottery-winner secrecy bill headed to House floor
I had to show my ID when I cashed a ticket valued over $600 yesterday, gave my SS number, and was given a W-2G. I'll have to include three W-2Gs when I file my 2016 Federal taxes so the only way I could remain anonymous is to not cash the tickets. At the end of the day, winners over $600 won't be anonymous to the IRS, state and city taxes, courts, or child support agencies. Someone said that their state gave them 3 months before they made the name public. The Freedom of Information Act o
