Mass. lottery winner dies in house fire
The only valid point I see you made was that he was old. I don't see how you could determine if someone has lived there life. It looked to me like he was living his life buying nice clothes and jewelry. I may be wrong but I was always under the assumption that you worked so that you could retire and live your life??? I didn't understand your 4th sentence? What does driving have to do with anything? Another thing carbon monoxide is a odorless gas. I believe that is why so many people die from it

Powerball lottery jackpot hits $200 million
Yes one million and 5% interest I could retire EASILY and never touch the principal. $50,000 a year with the rest compounding. In PA that is A LOT of money. Of course I would prefer about $3 million and up. I don't even make $20,000 a year by choice, and I am doing great. I could make about $30,000 or more if I wanted to work more, but I prefer to enjoy life with more free time and less money. Which is why the lottery would truly be a dream come true, as it would allow me to do more work that I

Lump Sum or payments?
All I was responding to originally was the statement made that someone older would take the lump sum as opposed to someone younger. The opposite is usually true. Someone 25 can invest the money and take risks and will have plenty of time to make up any losses. Someone 60 who takes a hit is affected much more dramatically. Most people when they retire are looking for a flow of income since they own their homes and no longer have young children, college tuition to pay off, etc. SirBrad is right wh

POLL: Motivation for playing
Interesting choices you have in poll. For me, it is to win the JP for sure. Of course, winning anything in the second or third tier would be great too.
I really want to retire soon. Been working for the last 44 years and want to just sit back, travel and fish with family.

POLL: Motivation for playing
Where I'm from playing the lottery is known as the Redneck Retirement Plan.
I try to contribute to this plan every week. With a little luck I should be able to retire when I'm 195 years old.

Britain's biggest lottery winner says jackpot ruined her life
That's what I got from the article. The publicity may be part of the problem, but it sounds to me like her biggest probems are that she isn't (yet?) comfortable with that amount of money and she no longer has a routine to keep her occupied. The latter is the reason that a lot of people have a lot of trouble when they retire. It takes a while to adjust to any significant change in your life, and suddenly having another 40 to 60 hours of free time isn't a good thing unless you can find a way to d

$3 million jackpot winner won't quit work
Congrats on the win!
I'd hire someone to manage the company and take that vacation down under before deciding on whether or not to retire.
