All I was responding to originally was the statement made that someone older would take the lump sum as opposed to someone younger. The opposite is usually true. Someone 25 can invest the money and take risks and will have plenty of time to make up any losses. Someone 60 who takes a hit is affected much more dramatically. The publicity may be part of the problem, but it sounds to me like her biggest probems are that she isn't (yet?) comfortable with that amount of money and she no longer has a routine to keep her occupied.
