Why it is important to remain anonymous...
Although most states do not allow you to remain anonymous, some states do allow the winner to claim in the name of a trust.
Doing this allows the winner to basically remain anonymous.
If (and when) you win, take your time and contact legal and financial counseling.

NH family claims $487 million Powerball jackpot, wants 'to do great things'
Lawyers for a New Hampshire family claimed a $487 million Powerball jackpot on their behalf Monday, saying the winners wished to remain anonymous but would do great things with their newfound wealth.
Attorneys for the family's new trust claimed the prize at a news conference after weeks of suspense about the identity of the winner of the nation's eighth-largest lottery jackpot. The winning ticket for the July 30 drawing was sold at a Hannaford supermarket in Raymond, a town of about 10,000 re

Strategy for remaining anonymous
Some people use trusts to claim lottery prizes anonymously, while others have used corporations or LLCs. No method is completely anonymous, but these methods to make the winner a little hard to find.
There's a book called How to be Invisible by J.J. Luna. The book is written in a somewhat paranoid tone, but it gives interesting information on how one can be tracked down and ways it can be made harder to be tracked down. There's no way to be 100% anonymous, but it can be made harder to be t

Strategy for remaining anonymous
If you don't live in a state that allows anonymity, or you don't trust that you will continue to remain anonymous (i.e., FOIA request), I propose the following strategy. Please shoot holes in this plan and let me know what I'm forgetting.
For Friday's MM drawing I figure that if I wanted to claim the ticket PUBLICLY (I don't), by the time tax time comes NEXT YEAR, I would expect to have about $195,000,000.00. I arrived at this using the following math.
Lump Sum Gross: $357,700,000.00

WV Lottery officials oppose jackpot anonymity bill
The House bill, now pending in the Senate Judiciary Committee, adds a section to the West Virginia Lottery Act. With it, a Powerball, Mega Millions or Hot Lotto winner could choose to remain anonymous and there would be an allowance for a Freedom of Information Act exemption if a person opts to accept a jackpot prize anonymously to keep it that way.
It's not about what's important to players, but public records and the question of should lottery winnings be exempt when other public records ar

Florida couple claims share of historic $1.6 billion Powerball jackpot
Can Lottery winners remain anonymous?
No. Florida Lottery winners cannot remain anonymous. Florida law mandates that the Florida Lottery provide the winner's name, city of residence, game won, date won and amount won to any third party who requests the information; however Florida Lottery winners' home addresses and telephone numbers are confidential.

Georgia Lottery winner killed during home invasion
Yes you do unfortunately, unless you Find a Great Lawyer that Knows what he's doing and sets it up in Trust's and goes through that to get your money which is what I would do when I win, The guy in Arizona that shared the last largest Jackpot a few years ago tried to remain anonymous for him and his family's safety, even before he was able to be prepared to collect his winnings, I think it was probably the people at the store where he purchased the ticket, had taken picture's of the front of his

Lottery officials say identifying winners a must
The lottery cares more about making money and the integrity of the game than it does about the winner's welfare. But most of those who had problems were already shady to begin with and from all those normal people and families I have seen win they have not had any problems from what I have heard. Most who did were already ex cons, drug addicts, etc so the lottery only compounded their problems. The West family won $340 million in 2007 and were all over the media for a long time.

Lottery veterans question Tennessee family's behavior before claiming Powerball winnings
Myturn it's people like you that drive me certifiably nuts. You're so easily tricked and can't read between the lines.
Also, why is someone in Australia talking about my own state lottery as if they know it better than other people who live and play here? I live in TN and I know my own state lottery better than 99% of the player base on here. so let's get down to it.
First off we have an anonymous winner just from the last jackpot before this one was even won. To copy and paste from anothe
