Probability of a MegaMillions rollover.
The MM jackpot has rolled. The cash value is $44.3M ; the advertised annuity is $75M. Eighth round jackpots sell on average, $23.2M in tickets. If the current drawing results in average sales the probability of various numbers of winner is as follows:
087.61%
111.59%
20.77%
30.03%
The long term model, a curve fit exponential function now overestimates the jackpot by 3%. It is nonetheless useful for estimating the long term probability of the lottery going to h

National Powerball
Let each state VOTE on it.
Some states are ultra-conservative and don't want it.
Besides, the more states that get into it, the better the chances are of someone winning it, which means the less chance of BIG jackpots too often.
Isn't it ironic we live in the greatest nation on earth, and yet few of us have a good opinion of our own guv't and how they run things ?

PA Cash 5 - Matrix Too Small?
PA's Cash 5 is a pretty decent game. The jackpots usually don't get to high...the average I believe it gets won every other day. Mostly it goes at $100,000 or $200,000. I believe if it fine the way it is.
Now Florida's Fantasy 5 game I believe needs to change. That state must sell lots of tickets for their pick 5 game. I mean the jackpot gets hit almost everyday and it usually goes for about $200,000. That means they sell more than 600,000 tickets a night for that game with odds of 1 in

do you pray to win?
I agree with your statement, We should not judge Mr. Whittaker he did do a lot of good with the money he won. He contributed to local churches and even formed a foundation to help people less fortunante. I just feel that he was not prepared for everything that comes along with winning one of the largest jackpots in history. I can't imagine all the requests for money he got from all over the world from people he didn't even know. I have read numerous stories on Jack and one thing he said that

Missouri's Pick5..What were they thinking
When the Show Me 5 went to the Show Me Five Paydown, the jackpot increased from $25,000 tax paid to $50,000 tax paid.
That's what most people look at, and the lotteries know this.
A lot of people were anxious for Californai to come into the Mega Millions, newspaper aerticles talked of $500,000,000 potential jackpots....but no one thought about the expanded matrix that came with that until it was too late.

If you had a 'system'....
I don't know. I like to share and help people, but it wouldn't make any difference unless I won REAL money with it. That would be the proof that it worked and then I would share it for the 3 and 4 pick games. If there was such a thing as a system that picked the jackpot game numbers for me (I'd probably go to jail then!) I think it would be foolish to share since the jackpots are split. Let's say tonight I was sure my 'system' was on target and I told everyone, then 20 other people won in FL

Probability of a MegaMillions rollover.
Prob988...thanks for the explanation of how the modeling function calculates jackpots. Still not sure if I totally understand, but then that's why you are a math genuis!!
Was wondering, how far back do you go to get the average drawing sales? Is it a rolling year or is it when California joined and they changed the jackpot minimum level?
On Wednesday and Saturday mornings after checking the numbers and realizing I don't need to choose between lump sum and annuity, my next step is to loo

Kansas Powerball lottery winner claims jackpot anonymously
nc6string...while the length of the Powerball annuity has not changed, the annuity payment schedule has changed. In the summer of 2005 Powerball went from an equal payout schedule to a graduated (4% increase per year) schedule. This change means the amount of cash set aside for the jackpot can purchase a larger annuity. This means a bigger advertised jackpot which in turn lessens the percentage of the cash payout of the jackpot.
Interest rates do have an effect. Earlier this year the pa
